Closing Norton window via notification Icon.

Did mention this in NIS 2009/10 Beta but still the same now.

Using Win 7 Prof.  +  NIS 2009 ugraded to vers. 16.7.2.11

I'd like to close the Norton window by right clicking the Norton Icon in notification area, and selecting Close Window'.

But it doesn't close the window.

I'm not 100% sure it didn't work for a time, but I was using the RC vers. of Win 7 then, which was equiv. to ultimate.

Am now using the released FULL vers. Win 7 Prof.

Re: Closing Norton window via notification Icon.

Win 7 and NIS 2009 vers.  16.7.2.11 on this one.

I did say Norton bar in notification area, not task bar

Maybe I confused you by saying ( Icon),

Using same notification bar , with XP and N360 vers.  4,  the window closes as it's supposed to

Image below,, hope this explains

No, you just mixed the two :P :D (Image from http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa511448.aspx)

Maybe this is a Win7 error....  Try this:
Enable Aero on the Contol Panel -> Personalize /Themes/ window. If your PC is not compatible with Aero, just switch to Windows 7 Basic. Now open NIS, and check the close option.

An other thing: You can get NIS2010 as a free upgrade in the Norton Update Center. Go here: www.norton.com/nuc, and download the NIS2010 package. Run the installer, and use your subscription key to activate it.

EDIT: Forum engine likes not the MSDN file name :P, copy the link and see it...Message Edited by PapauZ on 11-08-2009 01:20 AM

Re: Closing Norton window via notification Icon.

It does work with Win7 Ult 32bit (7600) and NIS2010.

I think this is a windows API problem not a Norton problem.  The notification bar-to-window coding is MS not Norton's.

Notification Bar - Notification Icon - Notification Area Icon.  Same thing.

I am using Aero, also tried using Windows 7 Basic, neither enables closing norton window by that method.

As for a Win 7 problem,  all other windows can be closed using this method

Have version 16.7.2.11  2009. with all the updates.

Will try the 2010 later, but I thought 2009 upgrades to vers ...11 were the equivilent.

Thanks for your time anyway.

I'll see how the 2010 goes,  What version is it, so I can check I've got latest ?

I am using 32 bit Proffessional,  but think this should make no difference

Also, all other windows close using this method so didn't think it was Win 7 problem.

As I'm using the Updated /Upgraded NIS 2009, I will try the 2010 as papauZ suggests and see how it goes.

No, it's unfortunately not... Did you checked the MSDN link? It's a great article about it. Notification area is this part of the taskbar/superbar:

What version is it, so I can check I've got latest ?

The latest version of 2010 is version 17.1.0.14.

17.1.0.14 was a controlled release that was not available to everyone and was subsequently withdrawn due to issues it created for Firefox users in particular. An new update is expected soon.

OK

Previously using NIS 2009 with patch 'NEW UPDATE 16.7.2.11' from top of this forum

Which had the problem

Have now updated to 2010 (Free)

Which is Version 17.0.0.136.

The update went perfectly, picking up on my original Key automatically, and updating it went smoothly

And eureka, no problem with closing now, right click Norton bar, click 'Close Window' and hey presto, it's gone.

Thanks for your efforts and perseverence

Re: Closing Norton window via notification Icon.

Is there really a Close window option in the system tray "icon-menu"? :) I'm asking it as I never checked it, and only saw the Open main window option when right clicking on the tray icon.
Can you please give a screen shot about this.

Now I checked it in the 360 4.0 Beta, and it has only an Open option. When the main window is open, it has that one too....
