Error 3047,53

Hi,

I keep getting the following One Click Support message on screen:

Error: "3047,53" after you install a Norton 2010 product

To fix this problem, update you Virus Definitions. Download and run the Intelligent Updater to install the latest Virus Definitions.

Then there is an option to download and run a tool to update the Virus Definitions.

Running this tool does not always solve the problem, and I don't know why the error keeps appearing.

I can leave the computer for a couple of days without use, then go on it one evening and the message will be there.

Any assistance will be much appreciated.

Many thanks.

Gary

HI gary_dexter

Sorry you are having an issue with definition updates. Could you firstly check that your system date and time are correct.

THanks

Re: Error 3047,53

Try this

Download intelligent updater from symantec and manually install the virus definitions.

Then reboot and run live update

reboot

Now see if any problem occur again.

Re: Error 3047,53

Hi gary_dexter

Thanks for confirming that date and time are correct. Could you let us know what operating system you are running and whether it is 32 or 64 bit. Is your Norton 2010 product Norton Antivirus or Norton Internet Security?

Re: Error 3047,53

XP Home SP3, 32-Bit.

Product is NIS 2010.

Re: Error 3047,53

Did you upgrade directly from NIS 2009 (or from a previous NIS version) to NIS 2010?

Re: Error 3047,53

Initially did an upgrade from 2009, and had the problem then.

So ran the Norton Removal Tool and reinstalled it fresh.

Re: Error 3047,53

Hi gary_dexter

Could try downloading and installing a full set of virus definitions from here.

http://www.symantec.com/business/security_response/definitions/download/detail.jsp?gid=n95

Ensure you choose the correct file for your system 32 bit or 64 bit (either 5i32.exe or 5i64.exe). If you are running 32 bit then the first file in the list is what you should download and run.

Let us know if this helps with the issue.

Re: Error 3047,53

I have the exact same issue although mine was a clean install of NIS 2010 on a fresh build of XP SP3 (32 bit). I downloaded the v5i32 file as directed and executed it which did fix the problem until I rebooted....then it came right back. I ran the file again and everything is fine once again. I know it'll resurface once I reboot. Any additional ideas on this error? I don't really want to uninstall and reinstall because it never a clean uninstall.

Sorry...I should have included that in my first reply since it came up earlier in this thread. Yes...the date and time are set correctly.

Hi JAKAFUTZ

What did you have on the system prior to your installation of NIS2010 and how, if you had another Norton product, did you uninstall it?

Re: Error 3047,53

I started with a fresh installation of XP...so no previous versions of Norton or anything else was present. In fact...I had the "Symantec Service Framework" error after my first rebuild which I couldn't fix so I rebuilt XP a second time...which cleared out that issue. NIS worked just fine for the first two weeks after the second rebuild and just now started with the 3047,54 error.

I've now rebooted a couple more times since running the v5i32 file for the second time and the issue hasn't resurfaced. I also ran live update just to see if that would trigger the error...but things are OK for now. I'll hold off on this post for now and return if the error shows up again. Thanks for now.

Hi JAKAFUTZ

That is good news that all seems OK for now. Please do post back if there is any recurrence of the issue and we will endeavour to help resolve it with you.
