Facebook totally frozen -- can anyone help?

Hello, I am new here. I have had Norton Internet Security since 2005, renewing it yearly. Current version is 8.0.7.1, and the current version of Norton AntiVirus is 11.0.17.1. I have the most recent versions of Firefox and Internet Explorer. My problem: Ever since I joined Facebook in July, it has always been "balky." Messages would not go through until I reloaded the page, or clicked "send" 4 or 5 times, etc. In the past few weeks it has gotten steadily worse, and now Facebook is almost completely frozen. It will let me log in, and I can view things -- inbox messages, updates from friends, friends' profiles, etc. -- but cannot input anything at all. I did a search of these forums and found these results: http://community.norton.com/norton/search?submitted=true&q=facebook . I took the actions recommended in those threads (Intrusion Detection > Advanced > Signature Exclusions > uncheck everything starting with "HTTP Facebook") and they have had no effect. Once in a great while, my account will un-freeze for a few minutes or a few hours, for no reason that I can fathom, and then freeze again for no apparent reason. This is a shared home computer, and the same thing happens on my partner's side. Facebook Tech Support's advice has been pretty much limited to deleting cookies/cache/browsing history. That has not helped either, and they appear to have given up trying to help. From reading these threads, it appears that people have gotten help for problems with Facebook similar to mine, but I haven't been able to find anything to fix my particular problem. If anyone can help, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Bruce

Are you sure aabout that? From what I can tell that is the 2005 version.

What version of Windows are you using? And is it 32bit or 64bit

Re: Facebook totally frozen -- can anyone help?

If you using a 3 year old program you need to dump it. Upgrade to NIS 2009. You license should work I belive if not then purchase it. Staying on top of security is the best means of protection.

Real Time Protection = NIS 2009 + NATBehavior Analysis = ThreatfireOn Demand = MBAM

Not if that NIS is 2005 as indicated by the version number -- free upgrades begin with 2006 ........

Notice how I said should work. I did not say will work. I wasn't sure on the free upgrade that is also why I said buy it. Please read my reply carefully.Message Edited by Dieselman743 on 10-16-2008 02:29 PM

Hi this is Tech0utsider

We will need to isolate the problem. Disable phishing protection and see if you can access your Facebook Account. Then, disable your Firewall if needed. This problem could also be a physical problem. Have your ISP run a line test and also run a speedtest to see if you are getting the advertised speeds, or at least close. A good Internet Speed Test site is: speedtest.net. Pick the closest server, which should be in yellow.

Re: Facebook totally frozen -- can anyone help?

So it turned out I was paying $40 per year to keep Norton functioning at the 2005 level?  Sweet.

Bought & installed Norton AntiVirus 2009,  and did Internet Settings > Intrusion Exclusions > unchecked all 3 boxes beginning with "HTTP Facebook."  Then went to Facebook and it is now functioning normally.

It has done this before (as I said in my original post), i.e. returns apparently to normal for a short while, then freezes up again; so we'll have to see if this lasts.  In the meantime, thanks for all your help.

Re: Facebook totally frozen -- can anyone help?

What are you using for a firewall? You should have purchased NIS 2009. Every year brings new versions of software just linke new makes and models of cars. Its up to you to keep up with the changes. Usually when your subcription runs out there is a new version which also comes out.Message Edited by Dieselman743 on 10-16-2008 05:30 PM

Who were you paying this to? Surely not direct to Symantec? If so I'd get in touch with Customer Support and see if they can "rearrange" things for you?

Anyway I'm glad it's OK ..... for now. Keep it that way. <s>
