Identity Safe - Does not Auto Fill (Norton Internet Security)

Worked fine for  months.  Now Auto Fill doesn't "auto fill".

Identity Safe Options Include:  This box is checked: "Securely collect and store my long-ins and offer to fill in those log-ins when I revisit those pages"

In the past the first time  I went to a site requiring a PW after turning on the computer in the morning, NIS would invite me to type in my ID safe Password and then would  activate the ID safe and complete auto fills as required.   I am no longer asked to sign in.

When I do Go to the ID Safe menu under the Web Settings drop down box and "Log In", I still don't get any auto fills.

I'm using NIS v 17.1.0.19 wi  IE 8.0. OS is XP SP3 on an Intel based system.

Are there any Norton  msconfig.sys startup items required by NIS that would render  the ID safe feature unresponsive or non functional if eliminated from the Startup List in msconfig?  I've reviewed that list and the only Norton App I see Checked is Ghost.  I find no listing for a NIS application in either group of Checked or unchecked startup items.

Anybody have any ideas?

Thanks

If you open your Browser, Click the button for Identity Safe Cards and Logins  --  Enter Your Password  - OK

Then click that Norton Icon again  --  then 'Manage'  --  then Manage Logins

Do all your Logins appear in the dropdown ?

If you highlight each one, is 'Auto-fill when I visit this page '  selected

and a tick in ' Enable login to be auto submitted'

Yes to each question.

Any more ideas out there?

ynotadlog,

Happy New Year!

Try the following,

1. Take a backup of your identity safe data to a .npm file

2. Reset the Identity safe profile by providing empty/wrong password in the 'Login to Identity Safe' window

3. Setup a new Idenitity Safe profile

4. Restore the Idenitity Safe date from the .npm file, created in step2

5. Check if this helps solve your problem

Re: Identity Safe - Does not Auto Fill (Norton Internet Security)

I went through all suggested process.

Backed up of ID safe data to a .npm file

eset the Identity safe profile per instructions

Setup a new Idenitity Safe profile

Restore the Idenitity Safe date from the .npm file

NIS doesn't ask for me to log in to Identity Safe when I attempt my first log on to a website

If I log into the Identity Safe without a prompt to do so, ID Safe still doesn't auto fill infor for sites already saved.

Any additional thoughts on what might be the cause?

Is NIS incompatible with Windows Defender thus causing this problem or can they run at the same time without a problem?

Do I need to remove and reinstall NIS? If so what's the process?  Should this be done in Safe Mode to prevent attacks from the outside  coming over the internet when unprotected or is the Internet connection required as part of the install process?

Re: Identity Safe - Does not Auto Fill (Norton Internet Security)

It is not recommended to run two real time prog's at same time.

Perhaps this is causing a conflict.

First try disabling Win Defender to see what happens.

Re: Identity Safe - Does not Auto Fill (Norton Internet Security)

You suggested: First try disabling Win Defender to see what happens. I went into MSCONFIG and unchecked MSDEFENDER in the Startup list and rebooted. Problems as described still persist. I am not prompted to log in to ID safe on first attempt to log on to a website requiring ID and If I log on manually in the Settings menu I can see all the settings but NIS still doesn't do an auto fill. What do you suggest as the next step? Thanks.

Re: Identity Safe - Does not Auto Fill (Norton Internet Security)

If all else fails, you could try a reinstall.

How did you get your NIS 2010, by download or on CD.?

Re: Identity Safe - Does not Auto Fill (Norton Internet Security)

Download as part of annual auto renewal process.

Version # on my install is 17.1.0.19.

Any special tips you have or warnings you can share about the uninstal and reinstall process?  Should I activate the windows defender capabilities during the uninstall to minimize vunerabilities?  Will I be able to download the software from Symantec prior to uninstalling so I can minimize the time I'm without protection?

Thanks again for your assistance.

Yes I would enable Defender while deleting.

First backup any Identity Data you can.

Make sure you have your Norton key in case you need it.

What was your last annual download 2009  or 2010 ?

Re: Identity Safe - Does not Auto Fill (Norton Internet Security)

What was your last annual download 2009  or 2010 ?

Download was in Novembeer of 2009 and the copyright date found under Help-Support>About in NIS Main Screen indicates a 2009 Copyright date.

Thanks.  I'll wait to hear back from you before I do a uninstall / install in case the above info changes your suggested course of action.

Is there any other problem with OS setup, (AdminPrivileges) missing startup file for NIS in MSCONFIG, or other OS related item that might affect the operation of NIS?

Thanks again.....

Look in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Shared Documents\Norton\{NIS_Production_94_136_NUC}

Is there an 'Application' file called 'NIS10UPEN.exe   about  82,628KB in size

If so, double clicking this will most likely start it reloading NIS 2010, from files already in your pc.

Just double clicked mine and it started reloading 2010

Will let you know what happens.

Edit.

It deleted  the previous install

Had to restart

Automatically reloaded 2010.

Then it activates, make sure you have connection to internet

Mine failed because it picked up on old Key.

As soon as I entered my active key, it activated

Now I must Update 2 or 3 times to get latest.

Also must make changes in Settings

Then I have to sort out and restore my ID data.

Re: Identity Safe - Does not Auto Fill (Norton Internet Security)

I do have the file. I'm in the middle of another project that needs to get done so I'll try your suggestion tomorrow.

Just to be clear, am I correct in my understand that you want me to uninstall first and then reinstall by executing NIS10UPEN.exe, do I bypass the Uninstall process and just execute the NIS10upen file?

With windows defender being on, at what point in the reinstall do I go in and turn it off?

Thanks again....

Re: Identity Safe - Does not Auto Fill (Norton Internet Security)

See the EDIT in my last post.

That's what happened to me just now.

I did NOT uninstall anything myself.

(After clicking that prog. it automatically uninstalled the previous load)

I just clicked on that file and let it do it's thing.

Don't forget.

1 Back up Ident Safe Data

2 Make sure you have An Active Key number handy.

If you try this, is up to you.

I just did it to see what happened.

The Norton reload should turn off defender.

Re: Identity Safe - Does not Auto Fill (Norton Internet Security)

This worked.

I turned on Windows Defender

I maintained a live connection to the internet

I clicked on NIS10upen.exe per your instructions

It copied files and asked for a restart

It restarted and then went to a NIS website that suggested I do live update

Live update executed

When I opened NIS, all previous paswords to Identity Safe and all previous Identity safe LogIn entries had been restored automatically.

I then went to two websites and my login information was automatically filled in.

Problem Solved!  Nice work.

Sorry for the 9 day delay in getting back to you....  Life continues at a furious pace demanding my time. Finally found time today to get to computer maintenance.

Thanks again for your assistance.

Re: Identity Safe - Does not Auto Fill (Norton Internet Security)

Glad you got it going again, and glad that you still have all your password and logins etc.

If you go to the Norton window and click on Help & Support, and then  put your cursor over 'About', in the dropdown, what does it give as your version number ??

Also, make sure you regularly back up your ID Safe Data

Happy Surfing.
