Liveupdate not working in Version 3.0

Dear all,

I have just recently purchased Norton 360 Version 3.0 and i have installed it on WinXP and activated the software. The liveupdate doesn't seem to work. If i run liveupdate manually, it says i have the latest virus definitions, but the  definitions update says: 181 days ago.

If i use "scan now" option, it searches for update and gives an error. 

I did a full system scan and tried updating, I was unsuccessful.

Also, I am not able to access my norton account from the Norton 360 interface. 

Can anyone help me?

You should run liveupdate repeatedly until it tells you that it is up to date. With a new install of a product that is quite a few months old it takes quite a few runs to get it fully up to date.

Hi Avinash,

For time being, try to update virus definitions using the Intelligent Updater from the following link:

http://www.symantec.com/business/security_response/definitions/download/detail.jsp?gid=n95

You have to download the appropriate exe file for your Norton program according to it's version(Norton 360 3.0) and run it. After that, run a Full System Scan. Then restart the computer and try running LiveUpdate again. If the LiveUpdate fails, click More Details and check for the error information shown there. Let us know the results.

Thank you for your replies..

Is this a bug?? Are you telling me to do this on all the computers that i install NAV 360 on?? I have done a liveupdate atleast 10times on one computer and as a sys admin i think its bugging to do a liveupdate so many times and liveupdate is one of the most simple operations any applications can do...

Is there a patch or a fix for this??

Hi,

What is the virus Definitions file format when a liveupdate happens? Is it in .exe format?

Coz, my proxy doesn't allow .exe file downloads and Norton 360 doesn't give any error, it just says the virus definitions are upto date, even if i enter the wrong proxy address!!!

Try restarting the system and then doing a Live Update.

Dear Users,

I have a machine infected with Virus. I mapped that machine's Hard Drives from the machine which has Norton 360 version 3.0 installed on it. I scanned all the mapped drives, one drive had 4 viruses and it cleaned them.

I disconnected the mapped network drive and rebooted the infected machine, but i still see an ICON named %$thb$%(C:) on the c:\ drive. 

Has the virus being cleaned? Or how do i remove this?

If you are behind the proxy, you can try to configure LiveUpdate proxy settings:
1. Start Norton 360.
2. Click Settings.
3. Click Administrative Settings.
4. Under Administrative Settings, click Configure next to Network Proxy Settings.
5. If you are using a proxy server to access the Internet, enter the details for Proxy Settings and Authentication.
6. In the Network Proxy Settings window, click Apply > OK.
7. Run LiveUpdate again. After LiveUpdate runs successfully, restart your computer.

 

If you are using Norton program in more than one computer, you can simply transfer the same Intelligent Updater file to the other computers via CD/flash drive, and use it for updating Norton program

Dear Yogesh,

I have configured the proxy as required... .and Internet is working properly from IE and Mozilla...

This is the first thing i did..

The worse part is proxy is configured in the anti-virus program but liveupdate is not working, i am not able to access support, I am not able to access Norton Account and the report says there is some problem with the network!! ??

Has anybody faced this proble,. .. I am able to access internet through IE and Mozilla without any problems??

Hello Avinash_Rao,

Perhaps we should try a third party on-demand scanner since you are having difficulty in connecting to Symantec links.

First, you should delete your System Restore points.

Next, download, install and update the FREE version of Malwarebytes.

If necessary, you can download this program and save it to another computer and transfer it via a flash drive to the "problem computer". You may also have to rename the mbam-setup file to something like "dogs" in order to get it to install on the problem computer.

Once those steps are completed, unplug from the internet, restart your computer in SAFE MODE and run a complete Malwarebytes scan. If items are found, follow the Malwarebytes suggested procedure.

You should run the Malwarebytes scan a few times in both Safe Mode and in Normal Mode to be sure it comes up clean.

Restart your computer in Normal Mode and check how things are working.

Once you are completely sure your computer is clean, you can turn ON System Restore.

Please let us know how you do with this.

Thank you for the information. I did what you said but the problem still persists..

My computer is configured for DHCP and Everything works except Norton 360. I am able to access every site from IE or Mozilla..

The system restore option was disabled much before i installed this norton product.

If i do a manual Liveupate, it says, "Your Norton Product has the latest Protection Updates" .. .This is strange, coz if there was a problem with network connectivity (actually there is no problem), this task should return an error, but it doesn't ..???

But, the main page says "Definitions Upate: 4days ago"... This is a bug!!

I have taken a print screen of these, but i am not able attach them..

Has anybody used this product on WindowsXP - SP2 successfully..

I don't want to regret spending that much money just to get one simple anti-virus software work.

You may not have come across my various posts. In my opinion, supported by my own machines and documentary evidence, Norton 360 does NOT behave the same as NIS 2009, in that a liveupdate will report that the product has the lastest protection updates, but in fact has errored out. To be sure I suggest you and any other enquiring user inspects their log.lue file. Scan for "ERR" and see what you get.

A "System Administrator" or network administrator is using Norton 360??????  Shouldn't you try EndPoint anyway unless your business consists of 3 machines.

Good Question.

This is for an NGO and the machines we have are P4 machines and its still under testing. As a Sys Admin, i would prefer a Server Version and have the updates pushed from the server to all the clients. But, we cant afford this right now. 

Also, I am in need of a Norton 360 only for a couple of machines.  And I am really disappointed on the way it is functioning, Infact, i want to return this and get my money back. It is not able to do simple tasks like liveupdate???

And, the log file the other gentleman is asking me to check doesn't exists on my machine.

This is where you can find log.lue. This is specific identifier "0C55C096-0F1D-4F28-AAA2" is for the product that I have. It might be different in your computer.
