Norton 360 version two automatically disables Windows firewall on startup!!!!

When I "upgraded" to Norton 360 version 2, Windows firewall suddenly began to turn off as I restarted the computer.  I called tech support, and explained that this difference happened when I switched to the second version.  The representative said that no, Norton 360 did not automatically turn off the Windows firewall.  I said that when I was on with HP support, they said that Norton 360 did turn the Windows firewall off upon restart.  Then the tech guy asked which version I had.  I said version two.  Then he said that yes it did turn it off.

I asked to speak with his supervisor, because I had been given two answers.  Again I explained that the problem occurred when I switched to the version 2 of Norton 360.  I said that no, Norton 360 would not turn off the firewall.  I said that wait a second, I had just been told that it did.  He asked which version I had, and I said that I had already told him, that I used version two.  Then he said that yes it does turn off the Windows firewall.

First, I expect intelligence, not incompetence with Symantec support.  Second, I want to be in control of my security.  Because the internet works just fine when Windows Firewall is turned on, they should allow people to keep it on.  People can always disable it manually.  To automatically turn it off is a security breach, and I plan to switch to a different security software provider because of this.

N.I.S. and Norton AntiVirus 2008 as well as Norton 360 and Earlier will either prompt you or turn off Windows' Firewall.  Norton 360 has an excellent Firewall and there is no need for Windows' Firewall to be on as Norton 360 will do the exact same job - only better; it is Safe for you to have Windows' Firewall off and is recommended because there could be clashes which will actually reduce your Protection.Message Edited by Floating_Red on 09-26-2008 07:39 PM
