norton internet security trial version?? help needed

hello,

can anyone tell me if norton internet security trial version is as effective as paid one.....coz im currently using trial version which came free along with the windows cd.. and i still have 30 days left so i dont want to waste these free days..

actually the problem is that it is unable to resolve some tracking cookies properly...when ever i scan it claims having resolved these cookies but the next scan perormed immediately after the 1st one again detects them...

im not very technical regarding these matters so any help would really be appreciated..thanx

Hi aasia

Please advise OS / browser / NIS version #

Maybe?  Does this change your scan results?

There is a setting in IE 8.0 called, "Preserve Favorites Website Data" found under the browsing history options.  Uncheck it.  Then delete the cookies.  All cookies will be deleted.  Then run the Scan again.

The reason the scan could not delete them is because it was directly trying to violate what the OS (IE in this case) was telling it preserve.

Hi aasia

Happy to read problem solved.

Wow! with the limited info in your OP I was reaching...

As IE8 is your preferred browser (at this time) you may wish to try Custom Cookie setting > Override automatic cookie handling > First Party Cookies ~ Accept  |  Third Party Cookies Block (or Prompt).

This will reduce tracking cookies...and may allow more control over "Preserve Favorites Website Data"

I'm more familiar with Firefox ...so, think about my suggestion.  Apps like Ccleaner will allow you to select Cookies to Delete & Cookies to Keep.  Some websites to function as intended require storing cookies on your computer.  There are other free cookie managers.  Tracking cookies Info

Re: norton internet security trial version?? help needed

ok now im a bit confused....

are u suggesting that it is preferable if i check the   'preserve favourite websites data' and then customize tracking cookie setting???

if u are,, then can u elaborate from where i can customize these tracking cookies settings?? As pashaa has already mentioned above, i can only find computer settings...comp scans...tracking cookie scans with options of remove, ignore and ask me... where r the options of this allowing or blocking 1st or 3rd cookie??

n secondly i downloaded this Ccleaner program 2 have a look at it...it doesnt give u options regarding tracking cookies...u can just check or uncheck the box to delete them..  ..??..

n yes thanx for the link regarding tracking cookies info...it was very helpful..:)

                         waiting 4 ur reply.....

Hello aasia

Please advise OS / browser / NIS version # Please

There is a setting in IE 8.0 called, "Preserve Favorites Website Data" found under the browsing history options.

Menu Bar > Tools > Delete Browsing History

Did you have it checked ?

Is it checked now?

You reported issue with Tracking Cookies >" actually the problem is that it is unable to resolve some tracking cookies properly...when ever i scan it claims having resolved these cookies but the next scan perormed immediately after the 1st one again detects them..."

I offered > The reason the scan could not delete them is because it was directly trying to violate what the OS (IE in this case) was telling it preserve.  "Preserve Favorites Website Data"  keeps Cookies.

So, I asked you to uncheck "Preserve Favorites Website Data" to allow cookies to be deleted.

You now ask > where r the options of this allowing or blocking 1st or 3rd cookie??

IE8 > Menu Bar > Internet Options > Privacy > Custom > Override > Accept First / Block Third

This way you will get less Tracking Cookies to have to delete.

It's your option if your want or need to "Preserve Favorites Website Data" which saves cookies and temp internet files for your Favorites.

For now forget Ccleaner...lets get you familiar with your browser first.

I asked you to provide your browser....I had to assume it was IE8 to offer help.

Maybe custom Cookie setup is not for you....then just check that Internet Options > Security and Privacy are at Default.

As IE8 is your preferred browser (at this time) you may wish to try at some time when you're ready
Custom Cookie setting > Override automatic cookie handling > First Party Cookies ~ Accept  |  Third Party Cookies Block (or Prompt).
This will reduce tracking cookies...and may allow more control over "Preserve Favorites Website Data"

I need to know your settings before I can suggest altenatives.

You reported > thanx a lot...the problem was solved...:)

Happy to help and happy to read problem solved.

Now, how can we help

Re: norton internet security trial version?? help needed

yes u have guessed it right...it is IE 8(n perhaps it wud remain as it is ), n im using windows 7,n NIS 2010..i hope now the info is complete...

and yes i unchecked 'preserve fav websites data' n instead selected delete cookies n temporary files..which solved my problem at that time.

now i have understood these default n custom settings...n i agree custom settings r not 4 me for the time being....

And as u already  have guessed by now how technical i am regarding these matters, it wudnt hurt to ask another question....

the question is that dont u think these default or custom settings would be applicable only if i check 'preserve fav wesite data'  (which i haven't)  because if i uncheck it n select delete 'cookies' n 'temporary files', ALL the cookies will be automatically deleted.?

Re: norton internet security trial version?? help needed

Hello aasia

Happy to help if I can ...

IE8 ~ Internet Options (Menu Bar > Tools) or your chosen setup for Internet Options > All Tabs (General / Security / Privacy / etc.) is like a Step 1  then  Delete Browsing History options is like a Step 2

Preserve Favorites Website Data is like a Step 3 ~  for those sites that you have saved to your Favorites you instruct IE to save those cookies and temporary files to facilitate the use of those sites.   You may setup a Homepage with a Local Weather option ....IE needs to retain certain cookies to be able to render Local Weather each time you open your Homepage.  Or, you may have a site that requires certain cookies to be stored to Identify you.

Hope this helps

Re: norton internet security trial version?? help needed

From what I have seen in my very limited experience with NIS, is that the trial version is identical to the purchased version.

On the issue of tracking cookies, please check how you have your Tracking Cookie Scan set. To check this in NIS click on Computer Settings-Computer Scans-Tracking Cookie Scans. If you click that button it should switch between, Remove, Ignore, and Ask me. If you want them gone use Remove. If everything is set up correctly and it still isn't working someone smarter than me will see this and give you a hand.
