Norton Security Suite from Comcast. Is that the same as NIS?

Comcast is now offering Norton Security Suite free to broadband customers.  Is that the same thing as Norton Internet Security?   If not is it better or worse than NIS 2010?

I already have NIS 2010 installed and am paying for a subscription, but if Comcast is offering free Norton then it would make fiscal sense to switch to that at some point.

I bvelieve it is Norton 360 not Norton Internet Security.

Comcast switching from McAfee to Norton

Norton 360 has "features" not in Norton Internet Security but does not have the same tweakability in its settings.

So you might want to try it out beforehand.

We heard from Norton Staff recently that you can download the 30 trial versions from CNET without any formality liek the CC business! And in case you are worried when you click on Download it takes you to a Norton download site, not to a third party site.

Hi Morac,

Norton Security Suite is not the same as Norton Internet Security, it consists of additional features like Backup & Restore, PC Tuneup etc(Norton 360). But, there won't be any free Online Storage Space available for backup. If you want, you can go for Norton Security Suite as it consists of additional features, but you may probably loose the current subscription of NIS 2010. I would suggest to wait for the current subscription to expire, and then instead of renewal, you can opt for Norton security Suite. To know more information on this, check with your Service Provdier- comcast.

As yogesh_mohan states, Comcast's free version of Norton Security Suite does not include the 2GB of backup normally included with Norton 360 but Comcast is also offering 2GB of free backup from Mozy. Here's a link for the free backup offer:

http://security.comcast.net/backup/details/

This, combined with the free Norton Security Suite from Comcast, seems to be the same as Norton 360.

Seems like a great deal.

Re: Norton Security Suite from Comcast. Is that the same as NIS?

Hi

Please remember that the current N360 that is out now is still based on the 2009 engine.  Being that the program would be coming from Comcast, I'm not sure you would be entitled to any free upgrades to the newer version 4 when that comes out of beta. I think you should consult Comcast and ask about any program updates that come out and if you would get them thru Comcast.

Re: Norton Security Suite from Comcast. Is that the same as NIS?

Hello,

Norton Security Suite has been customized expressly for Comcast High-Speed Internet subscribers. it offers superior detection and protection tools that Norton products are known for and is based on much of the same technology we use in all of our products, including Norton Internet Security, Norton AntiVirus and Norton 360.

Recently released, NIS 2010 includes the latest technology we offer, such as our new reputation engine. For users who chose NIS 2010 for its specific feature set and for its flexibility, you may prefer to stay with your current Norton product.

Thanks Stacie,

Having had experience of, I think it was either N360 or NIS, a version tailorred for Office Depot can you say whether this COMCAST suite will be supported by Norton here or by COMCAST (or both <s>)

I was startled with the Office Depot version that it had a click on for Technical Support that took one to Office Depot ..... !
