Subscription Renewal Price ?

Hello!

I will need to do a 'renew' in about 2 months, give/take .... will the renewal 'cost' be the same price as offered as a 'new customer' on Norton's website ?

Not to be cheap, in my retail-area there are always great values on security-suites and while i'd like to stay with Norton ISS (2010) i want to take advantage of a 'good deal' also .... thanks in advance for any ideas/replys  Edythe

Re: Subscription Renewal Price ?

Hi EDYTHE,

The subscription renewal price it typically $59.99 for an additional year when you renew through Express Renwal. However the price can be somewhat different depending on certain factors.

The retial price on Symantec's online store is $69.99 for on year so the express renewal is about $10 lower.

Please see: http://www.symantec.com/norton/internet-security

You can also many times find better deals through other online retailers or in local stores. If you can find a better deal then go with that one. Just be sure that if you have and need a 3 PC license, you are actually getting a version for 3 PC's.

Also when you purchase a subscription renewal through another vendor, there will be a different product key so it is best to wait until the last few days before your current subscription expires before renewing and entering your new product key as your subscription period will be reset and not added on to your current subcription.

If you purhcase from another vendor you still click on Express Renewal from the main NIS window and then on the next screen will be a space to enter the new product key.

If you want to renew directly with Symantec then you click on Express Renewal and then Express Renewal again on the next screen. Also if you do it this way you can renew any time and the new sbuscription will automatically be added on to whatever days you have left on your current subscription.

Hope this helps.

Best wishes.

Re: Subscription Renewal Price ?

The online US price for subscription renewal/upgrade is $39.99. the "Nag box" price is substantially higher.

This is the standard opportunistic price gouging that Norton uses with it's supposedly valued customers.

This behaviour should be against the law!

Re: Subscription Renewal Price ?

I can only see Norton Antivirus for $39.99.  NIS  is, as AllenM mentioned, $59.99.  What is the nag price showing on your subscription?

Re: Subscription Renewal Price ?

thanks to all who have replied

while i'm comfortable with NISS 2010 and i'm sure it's a great product i'm going with ''price' (locally -'box-store') and get whatever product is on sale - sometimes with rebates a product is almost 'free' ....If i can't get NISS then so be it....also saw in a later post on the first page Norton is offering renewal at $49. (not $59) depending if you click the right  link!

I don't need a 3-key option anyway... and i do know to download the 'removal tool' to use for uninstalling NISS and making sure all is properly deleted.

Of course i'll try to buy NISS locally - would be first choice - even if 'not' free - but at $50. for a renewal at Norton's site i'll shop first  locally ... if i can't 'do' better than that i'll have no choice -- if other products are similar-price i'll stay with Norton ...thanks so much

PS FROM EDYTHE"

forgot to ask .... even if i buy the NISS 2011 from local store (with rebate =$39.99) would i have to do a total uninstall of my current NISS (2010) AND use the Norton Removal Tool)   or would NISS 'recognize' it's own product and 'overwrite' ?  i realize i'll have a new key # to register......thanks in advance ......

It will recognize its own product and overwrite it after saving your settings and norton passwords

Re: Subscription Renewal Price ?

HI EDYTHE,

Thanks for the update. You do not need to uninstall your current NIS and you also do not need to install the new NS that you purchase, but rather just use the product key from your purchase and click on Express Renewal from the main NIS window. On the next screen you will see where the new product key can be entered.

Please see my earlier post regarding this.

Also, you mentioned NIS 2011 but 2011 is still in BETA at the moment. However once NIS 2011 is released you will be able to upgrade to it at no charge, provided your subscription is current.

Hope this helps.

Re: Subscription Renewal Price ?

Don't renew through the "express renewal" link in NIS. Navigate to the renewal page from Symantec.com > store > upgrades&renewals. The price there is 49.99, but if you click express renewal it is 59.99 (both for the same 1-year subscription).

HI socengin,

EDYTHE is talking about purchasing NIS from another vendor such as a store. There are two options with Express Renewal:

1. One is to renew with Symantec and pay the subscription renewal fee.

2. Put in a NEW product key (when already purchased elsewhere). This one does NOT get charged.

So Express Renewal is fine.

Re: Subscription Renewal Price ?

EDYTHE,

Please check the weekend flyers starting AUg 8 since one of the stores has NIS 2010 on sale for $0 after $80 mail in rebates ....

Can't do better than that and get quality!

Sorry I can't tell you where to look since Norton can't play favorites with authorized suppliers but this is a well known name in the USA and abroad.

PS -- Edythe -- that $0 may be an error since I can't find it on the actual website of the company  nor in the flyer that came with today's paper. But I do find a $9.99 offer from them which uses a further $20 mail in rebate for upgraders. Do check it out with your store or if it's not the same store then look for this one:

which is everything I have on it except the store name ....

Re: Subscription Renewal Price ?

Hello - thanks to you all for your help and hint about doing a 'renewal/upgrade' at the ''store'' of Symantic ....did find it for $49.99 !

only questions:

when i do the 'renewal/upgrade at the Symantic store's site i'm assuming the product will be shipped to me; that i will then have the 'new' product key  when the order arrives at my home  but also that don't have to use the cd that comes with the package;  (where do i go to enter the 'new' product-key?) _

That  unlike 'express renewal' site  i cannot obtain the product-key to 'renew' online at the time i place &  pay for the order  place from the Symantic store   and only way to renew on line is to do 'express renewal, use current key'' BUT pay more !

                 Do i have that right?

Re: Subscription Renewal Price ?

Hi Edythe,

When you purchase NIS online you are typically purchasing a download version and not a boxed product, unless you specifically request the boxed version during purchase. Your product key will made available to you in real-time at the end of the purchase.

You can get a 1 year subscription from Symantec at the following link:

http://buy.norton.com/estore/mf/upgradeRenewal?sfid=dR1GMgZfQ9nGLpZLQLhKybVNRBrPlnCyFP5GGL2BpdMWncTT2LGS!-315927778!1281366303071

Please click on Upgrades and Renewals on the left hand side.

Or you can shop online through other vendors such as Amazon, NewEgg, etc to see what prices you can find. Or again from a local store.

Please see this post (made earlier) regarding the Express Renewal.

If you do not want to purchase through Express Renewal directly (it is a bit higher at $59.99) that is fine. Again you can purchase from other retailers.

However, clicking on Express Renewal is still what you need to use to register your new subscription. When you click on Express Renewal there will be a box where you can put in your new product key which is already purchased. Doing this will NOT be an additional charge.

Please see image below.

You would enter your product key in the box shown and then click the arrow button to the right of the box. This will not be charged.

As I mentioned before, you should wait until the last few days before your current subscription expires before entering the new product key as your subscription period will be reset to 366 days (assuming a 1 year subscription).

Hope this helps.

Best wishes.

Hello Allen:

OH IGNORE MY LAST POST - NOW I understand !!!   when i do the renew on- line at the link below  for $49.99 (not directly via  'express renewal'' for $59.99)  after i fill-out the required information + credit card info the next screen will give me a new product key number and a download for 2010 ....i'm assuming i can have the choice of 'save to desktop' so that i can do a defrag/disk clean/ etc . etc. /restart and 'then' do the installation... ?

Also by doing upgrade/update link below inorder to get the $49.99 price i don't have to wait to the very last minute in order let my current days run-out for 'full year's use (as you suggested that i do 'if' i'd buy from a box-store)...So that renewing via NISS directly will start the 'new year' when my 'current' year totally expires.   Do i understand that correctly also ?   Thanks again for your help !  Edythe

Hi Allen - think i confused you and the 'issue:

           re-read your posts :

i'm a tad confused - please excuse my being so dense ...plus i confused you:  i already have upgraded/updated to 2010 but have to continue it into a new full year as of this November when my current year finishes.

. i know it would be easier to just click on express-renewal and enter my current product key and pay the $59.99 and stay at one 'site', but of course i'd like to save the $10.!!! So i'll use your suggested link.

I'm just  not sure what happens when i click on the link to 'renew'... Do i get an actual download + product key or just the new product key? (will the program 'sense' that i already have 2010 and don't need another download?

If i get just the new product key (from that link)  but no need for a download, do i then bring up my 'express renewal' screen, enter the new product key and the 'extention' of my 2010 will take place giving me another full year PLUS remaining days on my current year ?    thanks sooo much !  Edythe

Re: Subscription Renewal Price ?

Hi Edythe,

Please allow me to clarify. When you purchase a subscription renewal and receive a different product key than the one currently in use you will initially lose any days remaining on your current subscription. For example: say you have 20 days left now and then you enter a NEW product key for a 1 year subscription you would end up with 366 days and NOT 386 days.

Any time a new product key is used (I believe this would also apply to a purchase from Symantec online store because it would still be a different product key) the days currently remaining would not initially be added on to your subscription.

You can get these days back by contacting Customer Service. E.g., note how many days you have left on your current subscription. After entering your new product key, contact Customer service to get back any missing days. They are very good at making these adjustments.

Also you do NOT need to reinstall NIS 2010. You just enter the new product key as I mentioned earlier. All the product key does is to adjust your subscription, it does not affect your current installation.

Hope this helps.

Best wishes.

Re: Subscription Renewal Price ?

Edythe,

All that AllenM says about not needing to download and install and waiting until the last day or so to avoid losing days applies to what happens and what you do if you go out to the store and buy that $29.99 copy you said you had found, or an even cheaper one that I mentioned in my reply.

You can buy that copy, and then just use the KEY in the same way as Allen decribes and save that much more money!

But sometimes the simplest solution is the best for you.

When you buy on line I think you either get the KEY on your invoice copy or by email.

Re: Subscription Renewal Price ?

Has anyone ever recieved a satisfactory explnation from Norton/Symantec as to why the "Nag" price for renewal is greater than the advertised price?

It seems to me that the Nag price is simply opportunistic gouging of existing customers.

Re: Subscription Renewal Price ?

Hi Edythe,

Just to further clarify. NIS is the same software regardless of where it is purchased, whether through Symantec direct or another retailer. The only thing which changes is the product key used to renew your subscription.

When you renew through the program, (Express Renewal, then Express Renewal again) you are purchasing a subscription renewal using the same product key you already have. Therefore your new subscription period gets added on to whatever days you have remaining on your current subscription.

But any time you purchase in any other way, you are issued a new product key which you enter through Express Renewal and then enter the new product key in the box provided. As mentioned before this is NOT charged since you are entering a product key obtained outside of the program. But since this is a new product key, your new subscription period (say 1 year for example) does not get added on to the days remaining in your current subscription.

This is the case where Customer Service will adjust your subscription to add back on the missing days.

In all cases though, your program remains the same so you do NOT EVER need to uninstall and reinstall just because you renewed your subscription. In fact you do not even need to download the program after your subscription purchase because we can provide you the link to the latest available version here on the forum which will probably be newer than the link you get after purchase anyway.

Also when NIS 2011 is officially released sometime in the fall you will be entitled to this upgrade for free.

Hope this helps clarify.

Best wishes and please let us know how things goes.

Hi Edythe,

I am a user of NIS 2010, the full purchased program from Symantec. Comast Security Suite (also referred to as CNSS Comcast Norton Security Suite) is not the same product. CNSS is based on Norton 360 and is the one offered for free by the cable company.

It is easy because of the subtle name difference to confuse the two.

I am not familiar with Computer Associates Internet Security but I see at least one review indicating that it bogs down the system. But I really can't say too much since I do not recall this one being mentioned on the forums before.

It does not matter where you purchase NIS, NAV or N360 from it is a subscription based service and hence any time a new version is released you are entitled to it at no charge provided your subscription is current at the time.

So yes you can get NIS 2011 for free and you can come to the forum to enquire how to get the full version download of NIS 2011 once released.

Please make sure that your credit card information then isn't listed in mynortonaccount so that it doesn't get auto renewed. When it's time for you to enter your new key, just make sure that you wait till like 2 days before expiration to make sure that it goes thru ok before the product expires and then it would stop working. Thanks.

I have a few more questions about the process of buying NIS 2010 from an online retailer and entering the key in the Express Renewal screen pictured above:

  • How do I apply the new product key to my Norton Account?  Is there a step after I enter it into the Express Renewal screen?
  • Is the new key activated immediately or does it take time?  In other words, when will the number of subscription days be reset to 365?
  • Will I still get nag messages to renew my old key (the one I'm using now) after I enter the new one?
Kudos1

Re: Subscription Renewal Price ?

Hello car825

When you enter the new key, it should automatically go into your norton account if you have already set up the nortonaccount and you are using the correct email address.

After you enter the key, then hit help and support and synchronize subscription. By hitting synchronize subscription. that will activate and start the count down. You should enter the new key 1 or 2 days before expiration day.

Once you enter the new key and it gets activated, you will not get the nag screens again. If you have more than 1 computer, you will need to enter the key into the other computers and synchronize it on them also. The countdown starts with the first computer that gets the new key in it.

If you have any problems with activation after doing these steps, then you can contact customer support for free via the free chat program which you can find here. They are the ones who deal with activation and subscription problems.

This is the link for US/Can. If you need a different location, please consult your local Symantec site for the local free chat customer support link.

Hope this helps. and let us know how you made out. Thanks.

Re: Subscription Renewal Price ?

If I may jump in here with a similar question: I have a 5-computer license and can't find a price for renewing this anywhere on the Norton site -- only new 5-comp. licenses or renewals of 1-computer licenses. If it turns out that the renewal price is the same as, or close to, that charged a new user (>$100), then I assume it will be cheaper, once NIS 2011 comes out, to buy a new (probably discounted) license for NIS 2010 from a third-party retailer -- and then download the 2011 version. True?

As long as your 2010 5 licence is unexpired you can download and update to 2011 without any charge.

I've never seen the 5 licence box -- which I have seen in some stores -- at the sort of price reduction you can get on NIS 2010 3 PC at present.

You are entitled to an Upgraders Discount on the list prices (about 20%?) as an existing user (and this applies to any Norton product, not just the one you are using!)

Unless someone jumps in here with a firm answer I think your best bet for checking upgrade price on a 5 PC Licence would be to ask Customer Support -- here's my boilerplate on that:

To contact customer support Click on this link and work on from there.

You can choose CHAT or Email; phone may have a long wait time and feedback from users tells us that CHAT is by far the best at resolving problems.

Note that that link is to the USA/CAN website so if you are located elsewhere I'm sure you will be able to find the equivalent location on your local Symantec website; some pages have a link at the top right where you can select the country you are located in.

Re: Subscription Renewal Price ?

Thanks, huwyngr: (1) I found customer support chat a frustrating and unenlightening experience. (2) Could you supply a link on the Norton website to info about the Upgraders Discount, especially for a 5-computer license? I couldn't find anything. (3) NIS 2010 for 5 users is already discounted to $75 on Amazon, and I expect it will drop further when 2011 is out. Hence my question about buying strategy when it's time to renew my subscription.

Re: Subscription Renewal Price ?

Hello BlebNevus

You can buy the product any where as long as it's a legal version and then just stick in the new key a day or two before expiration. You can upgrade for free to 2011 if your subscription is current when the 2011 version is released. If you find the product cheaper else where than the Norton Store that is fine also.

Sorry I cannot give you more than I did but I did ask for a Norton Staffer -- names in red -- to come in with information on the 5 Pack and upgrade pricing. But if I'm right that it is about 20% then your Amazon price seems likely to be better.

I'm not sure that 2010 prices will drop dramatically just because 2011 is released since 2010 is freely upgradeable to 2011 and I imagine that retailers with boxed stock don't have to write them off when a newer version comes out ..... although I don't know this.

Re: Subscription Renewal Price ?

Try http://www.norton.com for the latest deals and multi-user packs available. As for a "buying strategy", I'll leave that to customers who have experience in finding the best deals.

Tony -- the situation we can't resolve is that going to Renew Your Product does not appear to give Renewal prices for Multi 5 or 10 and if you go to Store / MultiUser Packs then it only gives what seems to be prices to buy the first time round and not for renewing.

So can you help resolve that and/or point to any way of applying the Upgrader's price to Multi 5 and 10 ?
