Re: Symantec Install Stub

Hello ConorD

Welcome to the Norton Community

Are you saying that you are using another company's antivirus program and you want to uninstall Norton Antivirus program? Could you please clarify what you mean?

Re: Symantec Install Stub

I have a program on my computer, which I want to delete, when I try to delete, it says "Symantec Install stub" And has a norton logo on it, when I look at properties,

It says this. System32\Adobe\Shockwave 11\nssstub.exe" /download

Yes, I have another anti virus, and this one was just on my computer (I don't know why)

Re: Symantec Install Stub

Hello ConorD

You got this Norton Security Scan by not unclicking the check mark when you installed Adobe Shockwave. It's a sneaky install due to Adobe.

Please follow Yogesh's post in this thread to remove the program.

Please come back and let us know if this does the trick for you. Thanks.

Re: Symantec Install Stub

Ignore this if you see, only just see you posted, so Adobe had a sneaky update when I was downloading it?

Where can I find the Windows temporary folder?

Re: Symantec Install Stub

Yes, I have read that,

I haven't installed it, because when I tried, it wouldn't work, so it's not in Add/remove programs, And I am running vista, and there is no scheduled tasks on my control panel.

Re: Symantec Install Stub

Hello ConorD

Here is a site which should help you find the scheduled tasks and then maybe you can continue using the method in that other thread. Maybe you will find that Security Scan listed there. I'm running xp pro, so I'm not that familiar with Vista. I did a Google search to find out about scheduled tasks in Vista. Thanks.

Thanks.

Vista Task Scheduler

You will not find Delete the NSSStub....you're looking for the Scheduled Task associated with NSS.

Have you found Task Scheduler (Local) & Task Scheduler Library.  Yes / No

Do you have any Scheduled Tasks listed at Task Scheduler Library.   Yes / No

Do you have Norton or Symantec Scheduled Tasks listed at Task Scheduler Library.   Yes / No

Task Scheduler Library has a drop down arrow....Do you have a Symantec Folder.   Yes / No

Do NOT Delete anything within the Symnatec Folder

Do NOT Delete anything until reporting your progress & what you find for further instructions.

Advise Topic if you find the Scheduled Task associated with NSS

If you find the Scheduled Task (upper window) associated with NSS.  Highlite the Task and re-view the Tabs (lower window) and report back before you do anything.

Do you have Norton or Symantec Scheduled Tasks listed at Task Scheduler Library.   Yes / No

The last two, is it where it says "Name, Status, Triggers" ?

Re: Symantec Install Stub

This is not going as easy as you/we hoped....

See this Norton Community Topic

Try the Norton Security Scan Removal Tool here

How to remove NSS

Since you answer  " I think so " to ~  Do you have any Scheduled Tasks listed at Task Scheduler Library.

Since this post is proving problematic for you....

How about trying .... Uninstalling your Adobe product  (Flash Player / Shockwave Player ) with the required Adobe Uninstaller from Adobe

Then review this Adobe Forum thread....and try to follow it.

Can you post a screen capture of your Task Scheduler Library that should look similiar to this image.

I/we have no way of knowing what you put in the recycle bin.

I/we have no way of knowing what you haven't installed and what wouldn't work and what is not in Add/remove programs.

Maybe if you uninstall your adobe product with the required uninstaller and manually clean out NSS left overs...then maybe .... we hope.

If you get manage to get rid of NSS....then install your adobe product and watch for NSS box to uncheck.

The Adobe Forum thread points you in the right direction and this Topic points you in the right direction.

If you want to post a screenshot see this Forum Tip

Maybe someone will chime in with an easier solution.

Good Luck

Re: Symantec Install Stub

In the Task Scheduler libary, there are googleupdates.

It isn't Norton Security scan, when I click on it, nothing happens, so I haven't actually installed it, its just there. So it's called Symantec Install stub, not norton Security scan.

I think if I uninstalled adobe, that wouldn't work, seeing as it's already on my computer.

EDIT: Aha, I found NSSStub.exe on my Task Scheduler library, what should I do now?

I found NSSStub.exe     ~~~      NSSStub.exe  =   Norton Security Scan Stub.exe

Adobe is how Norton Security Scan (NSS) was installed on your computer.   NSS came with your Adobe install as you did not uncheck the default to install NSS.   Uninstall Shockwave 11 with the Adobe Shockwave Uninstaller provided by Adobe then reinstall Adobe Shockwave 11 with the NSS option unchecked.   Do you run apps that require Adobe Shockwave 11

Re: Symantec Install Stub

Thank you so much for the help!!

If my friends are ever in need of an anti virus, I will recommend Norton.

I deleted it from my Task Scheduler then backed up my registry files, then deleted NSS from registry, and finally put it in the recycle bin for the last time, restarted my computer, and it's not there anymore.

Thank you all, I may have been and idiot and not listened, but we got there in the end.

(Special thanks to bjm_ for exact Vista help)
