Trouble with spyware

Has anyone encountered a program called sniper spy? I found where it was installed on my PC, but what I'm not sure about is whether Norton 360 can remove it and all the components successfully. I did a search on the program and found too many free downloads that would supposedly remove everything and also found out what the program is supposed to do. I don't know if someone I know put this on here or if it came on through some other means. I am now officially paranoid! Help...and thanks!

Re: Trouble with spyware

Hello and Welcome to the Norton Community!

First of all you should post your OS (what Windows do you run - version and service pack level) and your Norton 360 version .

Make sure Norton is up-to-date and perform a full scan. Remove what it finds.

At the end , download and run :

Download the EXE file , not the ZIP . Save on your Desktop . Then , right click the file and rename it to something randon , click clon.exe

Run HiJackThis , press "Do a scan and save a log" . Close the program.

Attach that log file here in your next post .

Are you able to find that program in add/remove programs?  If so, it would seem that you may be able to simply uninstall it.

Re: Trouble with spyware

Hi, yes it was in the add/remove programs. I did the uninstall but I'm still a bit worried if it left something else behind, or if it even could. I called around a few places this morning but no one at the local shops have heard of what I found. I downloaded and ran malwarebytes and now I'm about to use the hijackthis link from the post above. I am probably overreacting but I really would like to know what that was, where it came from and if it is truly gone. The site for that spy junk claims it can be sent remotely through a file attachment. Is there any way to tell if that is what really happened or if someone actually got on this computer and placed it? Sorry I'm not very knowledgeable about these things. Thank you all for your comments.

Re: Trouble with spyware

Hi there. The computer has Windows Vista version 6.0 service pack 2. For the Norton 360 I found this version number 3.8.0.41. Thank you for the link. I ran hijack this and have attached the findings. Thanks again for helping me out.
