Virus scanning a USB pen drive

I have a USB pen drive containing a number of photographs transferred from a friend's laptop.

Can I use the Norton 360/Anti-Virus on my laptop to scan the USB pen drive to make sure it's all safe?  Is it safe to connect the USB pen drive to my laptop in order to do this?  Finally, can you tell me how to actually do the scan, if such a thing is possible.  Words of one syllable, please.

TIA

Re: Virus scanning a USB pen drive

Hi taltos, welcome to the Norton community.

Norton 360 automatically scans external drives when you plug them into your computer. You can read the post by TomV in this thread:

http://community.norton.com/norton/board/message?board.id=Norton_360&message.id=8057&query.id=795393#M8057

You can also right-click on your flash drive icon under "My Computer" and select the option to scan the drive with Norton 360.

Correction (since I have run out of editing time) of the above (thanks to Phil_D for the tip):
Norton will only automatically scan USB drives if there is an auto-run or executable component on them.

So if you have non-exec files like pictures on your drive, right-click on the USB drive symbol and select the option to scan it. I apologise for the unclear information in my first post :-)
