Which version am I running?

Hello All,

I have been a user of Norton products for over 2 decades now. Until recently it has been easy to identify which version of Norton AntiVirus or Norton Internet Security is on a PC. The software's title gave the version directly (Norton AntiVirus 2005 or Norton Internet Security 2006.

Unfortunately, this has been done away with the past few years. I KNOW how to find out which version NUMBER I am using (such as 15.5.0.23). However, I then have to search the Internet for this number to know that it is Norton Internet Security 2008.

Is there a table with all of these versions of Norton AntiVirus and Norton Internet Security so at a glace I can identify which cryptic number goes with which year of Norton AntiVirus and Norton Internet Security?

Re: Which version am I running?

If your using Norton 2008 then its best to upgrade to Norton 2009 for free. Each version is a different year. Version 15 is 2008. Version 16 is 2009.

Real Time Protection = NIS 2009 + NATBehavior Analysis = ThreatfireOn Demand = MBAM

Re: Which version am I running?

Yeah, I already have. It is a great thing that Symantec is allowing its customers to upgrade to their latest version with a non-latest product key.

So to make my own table:

2009 - version 16

2008 - version 15

2007 - version 14

2006 and before - not necessary since the year was plainly displayed in the product's name.

Anyone know why Symantec would remove this piece of useful information from plain site and hide it and encrypt it a bit?

Re: Which version am I running?

Of course there is an about tab. But it says nothing about NIS 2009 or 2008.

Real Time Protection = NIS 2009 + NATBehavior Analysis = ThreatfireOn Demand = MBAM

Re: Which version am I running?

If you go to "? Help & Support" in N.I.S. 2009, it gives lots of information about the Product.

Possibly because it is now October 2008 and NIS2009 has been out for a month already? <g> To say nothing that they have called for suggestions for NIS2010 which they are working on.

Yes Red it gives you alot of info. But guess what. Not what the poster is looking for. No where there does it say. NIS 2009. Or NIS 2008.

Re: Which version am I running?

A good point - version numbers give them a bit more flexibility in tracking versions. Of course, it makes discribing versions to layman difficult.

Thanks to all that posted! Especially the link to Wikipedia:

You're welcome -- having stayed a couple of times at the Mt Pisgah Inn your location caught my attention <s>

Then you are familiar with the beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains and Western North Carolina...

The Pisgah Inn has a gorgeous view of the Blue Ridge Mountains. It is particularly nice to enjoy a good meal there looking out on the mountain range.

I am about a half hour drive from there. Of course, I can get into the Pisgah National Forest in about 10 minutes.

Yes indeed -- as a "former textile person" I spent a lot of time in the Carolinas, mostly based in the Greenville/Spartanburg area.
