Windows 7 "User failed logon prifile invalid" virus not picked up by Norton.

Ist posting here.

Have had what I believe to be a virus, where I cannnot logon to Windows 7 (using a Dell Inspiron).

I believe a virus changes the user logon profile, whereby I can no longer logon.  (I had not made any system / user profile / or other alterations to the system deliberately).

The windows message says "user profile invalid / failed" (or words to that effect).

Has anyone else seen this?

It has not been picked up by Norton 360.

Had this problem 1 month ago, fixed by Dell support, whereby the user profile was changed by editing the registry, of the profile I needed to access.

There was only 1 user account set up (admin).

This has happened again recently, all Norton updates are, up to date!

It was resolved; via entering safe mode, then locating the user profile in the registry and editing there.

Has anyone else seen this or know where it origonates?

Hi, Flowrider,

Welcome to the Norton Users' Discussion Forum!

I would like to make you aware that if you find a File - or Files - you believe to be Malware, then you can Submit it to Symantec Security Response via this Web Link: Submit Virus Sample.
