Network Drives Scan On or Off

Hi there,

I have 3 PC's all connected to the same network, all running NIS 2011. One PC has an external hard drive connected to it, in which the other two PC's can also access over the network.

My question is, is there any point to having 'Network Drives Scan' On when the PC actually hosting the hard drive will be scanning that drive anyway. Surely this is like scanning that same drive 3 times?

Thanks

Ninko

Re: Network Drives Scan On or Off

Hi,

if you have that drive all the time in one of the machines, and NIS2011 runs on that PC, I would say you can turn on the other two machines the Network Drive Scan off.

Re: Network Drives Scan On or Off

Hi PapauZ,

Thanks for your reply.

Will auto protect still work though, for the times the other PC's access the network drive?

Is the option only aimed at NAS drives then, otherwise, the PC hosting the drive should be the only one scanning that drive. Other then NAS drives, I don't see the point in the option?

Thanks

Hi Ninko,

Yes auto-protect will still work.

In regards to network scanning, essentially you are correct. As long as the network drives are directly attached to a computer running Norton software which is configured to scan those drives, then scanning from a different computer will not accomplish anything additional for you.

Best wishes.
