Norton 360 v5 Error Code 8504, 101 - Hardware Malfunction Blue Screen on Startup

Hello -

Hopefully someone can help.   No problem installing 360 version 5, Windows XP SP3, intializes fine and starts protecting.   I have uninstalled MacAfee, cleaned registry, etc. with Windows Doc, run and uninstalled Malwarebytes and Spybot.

After 10 times installing and uninstalling 360, at Windows XP start-up I get the blue screen with "Hardware Failure:  NMI: Parity Check / Memory Parity Error".

After rebooting and choosing "Use Last Known Good Configuration", Windows will boot however 360 will not load.   When double clicking the 360 icon, it takes about 3 to 4 minutes and pops up with error code 8504, 101.   To analyze and fix, it has you uninstall and reinstall again which does not fix the problem.

Note the blue screen hardware failure problem goes away with 360 uninstalled.

No other anti-virus system is on the computer.

Help please.    Thanks!!!

Sean

Re: Norton 360 v5 Error Code 8504, 101 - Hardware Malfunction Blue Screen on Startup

Thank you Yogesh for replying.

I will setup another post shortly.   What I found the problem to be after numerous hours of checking the various hardware components and finally restoring the computer to Dell's factory setting and re-installing everything is that Norton 360 v5 and Radeon X1300 Video Drivers do not work together.

I have multiple monitors using 2 video cards (Diamond S9250 that came with the computer from Dell and a Radeon X1300 that I installed).   After restoring, uploading all updates to SP3, shedding the Mcafee program that came with the computer and uploading Norton, I then tried uploading the drivers for the Radeon card.   The system would not recognize the Video Card and would not accept the drivers.   I would get a black screen after the Windows XP logo would appear at startup.

Next I uninstalled Norton and immediately upon next boot-up, the black screen problem was gone and the system recognized the Video Card and it was fully functional.

Since the drivers were now recognized and the monitors were all functional, I reinstalled Norton again and same problem happened - black screen at startup.   When restoring to last known good configuration, Norton 360 does not load up (but the Video Cards are recognized and work).   When attempting to start it off the desk top icon, it will not load and gives an error code of 8504, 101.

Not sure anything can be done to fix this?   I will need to do something quick as I have not been with a functional computer for almost 2 weeks.

I appreciate your willingness to help folks out on the forum!  Have a good day.

Re: Norton 360 v5 Error Code 8504, 101 - Hardware Malfunction Blue Screen on Startup

Hi

My issue with this error code is now resolved

I had a version  of free Super anti virus software in the back ground (not an issue with N360v4?)

This has been removed

no more error messages

Hi Sean,

Try the following Microsoft KB:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315223

Eventhough the problem happens after installing V5, there can be other related reasons for this error.
