Ipod not recognized with Norton Security Suite

My PC no longer recognizes my Ipod after installing Norton Security Suite (the free NSS from Comcast).  Windows beeps as expected when I plug the Ipod in, and an entry for 'Apple Mobile Device USB Driver' appears in the Universal Serial Bus Controllers section of Window Device Manager.  However, Itunes just hangs for several minutes (sometimes with/without the little blue revolving wheel), then frees up but with no Ipod in the Devices list.  (Meanwhile, Task Manager shows <1% CPU usage.)  There is no sign of the Ipod in Windows Device Manager.

This is an Ipod Touch 3rd Generation; the PC is an HP Pavilion Elite running Windows 7 64-bit (with all current updates).

If I turn off NSS Smart Firewall (or completely uninstall NSS), everything works OK.  It also works fine on an older XP PC running a slightly older version of NSS, with the firewall on.

The music files are on a NAS drive, but that doesn't seem related because Itunes can reach them as usual; it's only the Ipod that isn't seen.

Steps I have already tried with no luck:

- remove and reinstall all Apple software (Itunes, Bonjour, Apple Mobile Device Support, Apple Application Support, Quicktime)

- verify that Itunes and Ipod both have current software versions

- do full factory reset on the Ipod

- set Itunes, Bonjour (mDNSResponder), and Apple Mobile Device Service to 'Allow' in NSS Frewall Program Rules

- stop then start Apple Mobile Device service using Administrative Tools

- turn Autoplay off and on

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I am having the EXACT same problem.  As soon as I upgraded - WHAM - iTunes no longer recognizes my iTouch and freezes up!

PLEASE HELP!

Re: Ipod not recognized with Norton Security Suite

Me too!  For some weeks now, when I connect one of the family's 3 iPods (2 "Touches" + 1 "Classic") to our Dell Inspiron 530 Desktop I receive the message "USB Device Not Recognised - One of the USB devices attached to the computer has malfunctioned and Windows does not recognise it".  The iPod is not recognised within iTunes and will not sync.  My PC is protected by a Norton Internet Security package (incl. Antivirus, Antispyware, Firewall Protection, etc.).  I have uninstalled and reinstalled the iTunes Software however the issue remains.  Prior to the timeframe outlined I had no difficulties of this type and it has been suggested that my security package may well be causing the difficulty.  Please help... I'm reaching the end of my tether on this one!!

Thank you, HK.  I must admit that I don't often subscribe to such groups but am desperate to resolve this issue.

OS??? - Please explain (I'm a Trainee Newbie)!  What product details are you looking for?

HK meant which operating system. For example, 64-bit Windows 7 Home Premium Edition SP1. Basically, we need details about your computer setup. Hardware details would be good too. :)

Re: Ipod not recognized with Norton Security Suite

All, the other piece of information that is important is the product info:

mickeyd --> I know you noted you had NSS from comcast but which version?

MatadorM83 and Losingtherag --> would also like to get that same info.

We are aware of a couple other reports of this and haven't been able to reproduce this as of yet so any information you can provide would be great.

Other stuff that wouldn't hurt would be the iTunes software version and the version on the unit (phone, pad, pod)

thanks
