How to change the language on Norton Internet Security 2012

My license is Dutch. Whatever I do, uninstall, removal tool, go via http://updatecenter.norton.com/ nothing helps...

(updatecenter tells me: "You already have the latest version of your Norton product installed on your computer"

Although I removed everything, even all Norton folders on C-drive.

Have a license for the Dutch version - it seems that I stuck with it.

Any solutions?

TIA

Welcome to the Norton community,

Go to the Norton Update center via http://updatecenter.norton.com/ and on the top right hand side it should show as english.Click on where it says English and you will get the option to change it to Dutch.

Once its done it will ask you to select the product.Choose Norton Internet Security and the version as 2011 and click on continue which should give you the Dutch version.

Let me know if this worked.

Cheers !

Re: How to change the language on Norton Internet Security 2012

Hi thewul,

The Norton Update Center will download the product with whatever language is indexed into the Product Key that you used to activate the product.  For example, if you install an English language version, but activate with a key from a Dutch version, the Update Center will download a Dutch version.  To upgrade an English version you should use the direct link to the English installer:

Re: How to change the language on Norton Internet Security 2012

Hello thewul

From your question, it is not clear if you want the English version or the Dutch version or some other language. Would you please clarify which language you desire, then we can help you further? Thanks..

Re: How to change the language on Norton Internet Security 2012

Hi thewul

You won't be able to change the language of the product once it is installed.

If you want a Dutch version of Norton Internet Security 2012, you can download it from www.norton.de/nis12

and use the same product key which you got , to activate it.

Thanks

Re: How to change the language on Norton Internet Security 2012

Thanks to you all for the feedback.

When buying a license I was automatically directed to the Dutch site, so my license is for the Dutch version. At time of buying I did not realise that I was 'restricted' to a Dutch version and it would be fairly complicated to change that.

Anyway, bottomline: I'd like to have the English version of NIS2012:  it is a bit easier to communicate here, whilst using the English version.

Maybe, at one point in time, Norton will distribute a kind of "International" version, allowing users to select the language they wish to install when setting things up.

Re: How to change the language on Norton Internet Security 2012

Hi thewul,

Even though your license is for the Dutch version, you can still use the same Product Key to activate an English version.  Just uninstall the Dutch and install the English version, which you can get from the link I posted above.

Re: How to change the language on Norton Internet Security 2012

Thanks!

I am downloading it now and will get back on this.

Actually, I _tried_ to find a workaround myself yesterday by downloading a trial version. The steps one has to go thru to get a trial version is that you need to provide credit-card details again (though the charge will be '0'). Actually at that point I stopped, as I was not sure how that my 'conflict' with an existing license, etc.

One shd simply able to download a trial exe.

Same counts for when having bough the product: the last step is one of downloading  _and_  installing. I did not see a way to just download it, without installing. Personally I prefer to first remove an existing Security Suite first, close all applications (virtual drives), etc. Also I want to be able to re-install a program running it from my HDD.

Meanwhile I've got the file  "NIS-ESD-19-1-0-28-EN.exe" 109mb.

Let's see.

Thanks again.

Re: How to change the language on Norton Internet Security 2012

Hello thewul

Once you get the English version installed, just put in your Dutch key where it says to renew if it doesn't pick up your key automatically. Please do not go to the update center if you have to reinstall again for some reason. If you go to the update center again, you will end up with the Dutch language program as it is tied to the product key. When you come here to get the program, you can get it in any language you want that is offered by Symantec. and activate it with the key you have as long as your subscription is still valid and current. Thanks.

Edit:  When you need to reinstall and if you need to, just come here. The short link for NIS 2012 in English is this.

Link for NIS 2012

Please remember to run live update to get all updates and then reboot once more. Thanks.

(thanks to Yaso for the links.

If you would rather install NIS 2011, here is the link for that.

Please run live update until no more updates and then reboot.

Please come back and let us know how you made out. Thanks.

Re: How to change the language on Norton Internet Security 2012

I think Norton has some improvements to make in usability:

1. That the online form to be filled in asks for a password, without telling the user which password (assume Norton, but best to be clear about it), is bad usability.

2. That Norton updates do not check for the current language installation and ask the user do they want the update in the current language, or another language, bad usability.

3. That the user cannot change the GUI language via some "Settings / Change GUI language" option, is bad usability.

I unintentionally updated from English to Finnish, only to realise I cannot change the GUI language afterwards.

So, which Norton Internet Security is smart for security, it is still a bit dumb for usability.

Re: How to change the language on Norton Internet Security 2012

OK, I was frustrated, I've calmed down, but my usability points are still valid.

So, can someone please help me to resolve my following dilemma:

1. I had NIS 2011 in EN language, but on a computer located in Finland.

2. I clicked *and paid the almost 70 euro* to update to NIS 2012 and it downloaded a Finnish NIS 2012 update, with a different serial number to the previous 2011 EN version.

Q: How can I "turn" my Finnish NIS 2012 update into an English NIS 2012 update *without* having to incur the update fee again?

Thanks!

Niallo:

As per the previous posts, you will need to uninstall your present product, and install the English version from the link previously given.  You will be able to use your present key to activate it.  You will not be able to go to the update centre for upgrades as it will download the language to your present key.  You will need to come here for a link.  Please view previous posts on this thread for any further information.

Just to reiterate what others said before this, you can still download the English version yourself and activate it with any language product key. Just don't go directly to the Update Center or upgrade to another product year from the NIS program.

3. That the user cannot change the GUI language via some "Settings / Change GUI language" option, is bad usability.

   >> Symantec has completely different installations for each of the supported languages to cut down on the size of the program - at least that is the primary reason. Norton security software like NIS, NAV and N360 support a lot of languages and if each one were included in the program, it would be a much larger install.

HI Niallo,

Welcome to the Norton Community.

Please see responses inline above.

Also to clarify one other thing for you. The next time you purchase a subscription renewal be sure to purchase one in English. Once you have done that and used your new product key to update your subscription, it will then default to English from that time forward. When you do renew be sure to wait until a day or two before your current subscription expires before entering the new product key to prevent losing any days from your old subscription.

Hope this helps.

Best wishes.
