Email Error This message does not comply with required standards.

Every email I receive now results in this message from Norton:

"Email Error

This message does not comply with required standards."

The activity is 550 5.7.1 pB6JAUYW 029724

How can I either 1) fix the issue or 2) if irrelevant, stop the notifications?

Hi,

This sounds much more like a pass-thru from your ISP than it does from your Norton product.

Which version of what Norton product are you running? and which email client are you using? Or are you using a web based email service?

Thanks

The message is a popup from Norton. I took a snapshot but can't figure out how to attach it. Adding a jpg attachment to the thread doesn't seem to be allowed.

Norton Antivirus 19.2.0.10

I'm using MS Outlook 2007 (12.0.6562.5003) SP2 MSO

OS Name Microsoft® Windows Vista™ Home Premium Version 6.0.6002 Service Pack 2 Build 6002

Hi WilliamWelch,

This is an error being kicked back by the SMTP server.  Norton is displaying the alert, it is not causing it.  Are you attempting to send mail through a domain other than your own ISP?  You should contact your email service provider to find out why this is happening.

Hi WilliamWelch,

Try turning  off "Email Antivirus Scan" in your settings. (Settings > Network > Email AntiVirus Scan).

If this stops the notifications, you may want to select to Ignore the resulting warning.  Select Advanced from the main page Of NIS, Under Network Protection, Hover over Email Protection, Select IGNORE and that will turn off the Orange Fix on the main page as well as return the Tray Icon to a Green check.

I was told that I had to fix the print screen. I hope this passes the test. Thank you people for whacking away at this.

Hi WilliamWelch,

I'm sorry - I misread your opening post.  You are getting this alert on incoming messages?  Disable email scanning as yank suggested, but since the alert indicates a SMTP error code, the problem is most likely with your email service provider and you will probably need to contact them to get this fixed.

Re: Email Error This message does not comply with required standards.

Hi there.

I was just browsing and noticed this post.

This error is a SMTP Delivery Status Notification (do not confuse with DNS!) - Permanent Failure.

Error code: 5.X.X  -  A Permanent Failure is one which is not likely to be resolved by resending the message in the current form.

Some change to the message or the destination must be made for successful delivery. This might also refer to corrupted hyperlinks in the message. I agree with SendOfJive, that you should take this up with your ISP (and their Mail Server.)

It is not the fault of Norton.

FWIW.
