How to delete unavailable back-ups from Backup History?

Hi guys,

I'm running Ghost 15 on W7 Ult 32bit.

A total backup of my C: drive takes place daily and has done for years. This has enabled me to get out of some big problems from time to time.

However, now I see that there are 2 backups marked 'Unavailable' in the History dating from 2010 and I would just like to get rid of them to keep things tidy. They don't appear in 'Manage Backup Destination' so I can't delete them They are not on the specified driver either.

How can I remove them?

Can you go to Task > Manage backup destination and delete them from there?

Nope! Can't find any way within Ghost to get rid of them!

Is the backup job listed under Advanced > Backup jobs? Maybe you can delete it from there. If not, I can tell you how to nuke ALL history.

No! The only reference to it is that they appear only in Backup History!

Geoff,

Red won't mind me stepping in, he is about 6 hours behind us in the USA.

If you type "service" in start and stop the "Norton Ghost Service" use explorer and search in  C\ProgramData\Symantec\Norton Ghost\History and do the same for Schedule. Look for all the .pqh files and delete all of them.

That will delete all history and schedules. You won't loose any backups by doing this and after starting up the Norton Ghost service again or rebooting you can then setup new schedules, and the history will start from scratch.

Thanks Deric, I did that but the pqh files were just recreated exactly as they were before!

Also, there wasn't any pqh files in the Schedule folder.

I should just point out that these 'unavailable' backups are more of a niggle than anything else. I want to see the back of them just to keep things in a tidy state.

Oops! Rebooted a couple of times and now they're gone!

Thanks for your help Deric, and thanks to Red too!

Re: How to delete unavailable back-ups from Backup History?

Sorry folks, but the above process doesn't work on WinXP pro and Ghost14.

Ghost seems to think that I backed up an extra hard drive which has been diverted for other purposes.  It shows it "at risk".When I go to Norton Ghost | Advanced | Drives , it has a red x next to it.  The remove back-up job option is grayed out and doesn't work. Hence every time I go to run a back up job, I get some C0000013 error message that takes multiple esc. presses to get rid of. Also, I'm being constantly reminded that I need to back up my machine when the truth is that I backed up the entire C:\ drive within the hour.

How do I delete this obsolete back-up job?

Try Deric's suggestion above, but while the service is stopped, search your drive for all *.PQJ files and delete them. Doing this, along with his suggestion, should clear the job.

Re: How to delete unavailable back-ups from Backup History?

I ultimate got problem fixed with help of a Norton tech.  My Sony VAIO machine has memory card slots that are driven from a USB driver.  For some reason, Norton was generating error message because there were no cards in the card slots.  Uninstalling the memory card slots and restarting the machine, to reinstall the memory card slots, seems to have gotten rid of error messages.
