Installing Norton Antivirus on Windows 7 made some other programs disappear

Last week I purchased a 3 licence version of Norton Antivirus 2013. I started by installing it on my Sony computer with Windows 7. After the reboot many of my programs, like Internet Explorer and Steam, had disappeared. I tried rebooting some more times and running installation of NAV again, but the programs were not coming back. In the end I did a system restore, and all the old programs were there again.

My problem seems similar to the problem described in http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-Internet-Security-Norton/Internet-Security-2012-has-removed-all-my-programs/td-p/654821

How come this issue has not been fixed in the 2013 version?

Is the solution to this still to make a Windows backup as described in http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-Internet-Security-Norton/Internet-Security-2012-has-removed-all-my-programs/m-p/655479#M194320 And then try to install it again?

Have I lost 1 of the 3 licences now when doing the system restore?

Thank you in advance.

Welcome,

Last question first - no, you have not lost any of your three subscriptions.

I haven't experienced your problem so I'm wondering if there might be something else going on. Have you run any scans? Did/do you have another security product installed? If you did, how was it removed?

Because of the failed install it might be wise to run the Norton Removal Tool to clean up the system before trying to reinstall your Norton product.

A full scan with Malwarebytes free scanner might also prove useful.
