Unable to restore file deleted by Norton

I have recently scanned my computer and Norton Internet Security 2013 deleted one of my files due to WS.Reputation.1. I have read and understand how Norton detects these files. However, the file is not quarantined and thus cannot be restored, with regards to forum thread at http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-Internet-Security-Norton/Clarification-on-WS-Reputation-1-detection/td-p/232155.. It is automatically removed by Norton and can only be viewed under "History". Is there a way to recover the files? The file is 2GiB is size and would take a long time to re-download it. Is there a way to restore the file, if it is not in the "Quarantine" section? Otherwise, I would have to leave SONAR protection and Download File Network Insight off to prevent future undoable removals, which makes the anti-virus quite useless.

I understand you can stop Norton from scanning a specific file or program so that it would not be removed for WS.Reputation.1, but what I want to do is to recover the file.

Edit - Moreover, Norton does NOT provide an option to keep the file. I have already re-downloaded the program once and it has been deleted twice. That's already 4GiB in total. And a long amount of time not taken into consideration.

I have completely disabled Norton entirely and it still delete the file on the 4th download. That's crap.

Re: Unable to restore file deleted by Norton

Hi Kel007,

There are a couple of ways to download the file:  Either turn off Download Intelligence temporarily while the file is downloading, or create a download folder, add it to Items to Exclude from Auto-Protect, SONAR and Download Intelligence Detection, and download the file to that folder.

Re: Unable to restore file deleted by Norton

I have come across the same problem like you. My files were deleted by Norton because of Mistakenly deleted. Even the best anti-software can not avoid the mistakenly deletion. Ok, let me show you the solutions.

If you are sure that the files are safe and will not do harm to your computer, go ahead! Your files' characteristics is similar to the Virus. So norton will delete your files. You can add the file to Trust List or close nornon when you are using this file.

About the files recovery solution, I am afraid that you should look help for the data recovery tool. However, deleting won't make your files deleted actually. I am using Yesterdata Data Recovery to recover my files from Norton mistakenly deletion.

Choose "Accidentally Deleted Files" option to recover your data. You files will be back soon.

Re: Unable to restore file deleted by Norton

Hi Kel007 - I'm a Product Manager on the NAV/NIS team and am going to look into this with our team on Monday. I always just turn off Download Insight temporarily if a file I know is safe is being targeted by our product. Your post got me thinking though, "shouldn't I just be able to restore an already downloaded but quarantined file?" If there is a way, I can't figure it out. So I'm going to look into this. I know that's not much consolation right now, but your situation where you don't want to redownload is very valid. I'll post back once I find out. Sorry you're having this trouble.
