MInecraft Server - Port Opening

Hi. I've been trying for awhile now to set up my own Minecraft Server, and it's been going smoothly. However, my friends are not able to connect to the server. I've located the promblem - port 25565, the Minecraft Server port, isn't open.

I've tried a variety of tutorials, includin thigns from this site; however, even if I follow the steps it seems the port is not open as according to this website:

Here's a screenshot of my current port setup, to help us resolve this issue.

Re: MInecraft Server - Port Opening

Hi,

Which version of Norton do you use?

Did you try disabling Smart Firewall from Norton temporarily (for few minutes) & then check if the port is open?

If disabling the Smart Firewall resolves the problem, then you can configure the firewall to allow communications through the specific port. You need to create a new traffic rule.

Thanks,

Re: MInecraft Server - Port Opening

I use Norton version 5 (.2.2.3).

And as for the traffic rule - that seems to be the basis of the problem. I have created it, and yet the port still refuses to open.

I have selected on the traffic rule;

Allow connections that match this rule,

Connections to and from other computers,

Any computer,

(Please see the screenshot I provided on my first post).

I have also created a history log, opted for NAT, and moved it up to the highest tier on the traffic rules placement. I just don't understand why the port refuses to open, despite all this. I apologize for the inconvienence.

Re: MInecraft Server - Port Opening

What range of computers did you add it to the traffic rule? Did you try disabling Smart Firewall from Norton temporarily (for few minutes) & then check if the port is open?

If disabling the Smart Firewall resolves the problem, then only creating a traffic rule can resolve this problem.

Thanks,

Re: MInecraft Server - Port Opening

Hello Rootbot5

Have you also allowed the game into your router? It may be necessary for you to port forward the necessary ports for the game and also allow the game's exe. file into the fire wall. Also, every one has to be running the same patch version. Another problem might be that your ISP doesn't allow servers, even game ones. Are you running this server all the time? Does it work if you go on the DMZ while hosting the game? It's not advisable to stay on the DMZ all the time, but you should be able to try it out to see if that solves the problem. The problem may also be the other people's computers if they aren't configured properly. Please let us know if any of this is helpful. Thanks.

Success always occurs in private and failure in full view.
