When I try to run the backup, it starts & then fails, telling me the backup drive isn't connect, but it is. I'm able to open it & access files, so the computer definitely sees it. How can I fix this?

First - I assume that you are using the backup facility in Norton 360. Can you tell us which version of N 360 you are using.
Have you ever run N 360 backup before?
Have you tried running preview?
How is the backup disk connected to the PC?
Are you telling N 360 to back up to the drive or to a folder in the drive?

I've been running it the same way for years without changing anything. I managed to get it to successfully run today by restarting & then "changing" my backup settings to the same options that were already there.
