Firewall turned off

Dear Community....

When I turn on my PC in the morning I occasionally get a security 'pop up' that says "Internet security turned off, your computer is at risk"

When I click on my Norton 360 icon the following screen comes up. It says fix now, so I click it and it switches on straight away and I then get the green thumbs up with a message saying "smart firewall is now on".

Does anyone know why this is happening?

Thanks in advance.

Wayne

Re: Firewall turned off

Hi, waynedegu,

Thanks for your Message!  Sorry to see you're having issues with your Norton Product.

This could be caused by a number of factors: You could have a Threat on your computer that is Turning Off the Norton Firewall, or it could be a fault with the product.  Just a few questions: Have you had pop-ups from Norton detailing that it has detected a Threat on your computer and/or that it is "Removed" one?  Also, when the Norton 360 Product turns the Firewall back On, does it stay on?

In order to check your computer doesn't have another Threat, please download and install Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (Free Download) and SUPERAntiSpyware Free Edition.  Please then Update the Products' Definitions, dis-connect from the Internet, and do a Full Scan with both products one after the other; please only run one product's Full Scan at a time as running them both together will cause conflicts which could result in Detections being missed.  You can keep the Free Editions of these products on your system as these have no Real-Time Protection and can be used as an On-Demand Scanner.  Please Remove any Detections Detected by the products, if any, listing them in this Thread; please let us know if there are no Detections detected.  You may also want to Run a Full System Scan with your Norton 360 Product too, letting us know if anything is detected.

Once these instructions are completed, it will be listed what you need to do next.

Please feel free to ask any questions you have before getting started.

------

Edit:

Please also let us know if any Detections are Removed or not.

Re: Firewall turned off

Check that your system date and time are correct.

In case there may be some issue with your installation, you can try clicking on Support - Get Support to run  Autofix to check your installation and fix what it finds.

Also, be sure you have run LiveUpdate manually a few times, rebooting as necessary, until no updates are available.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Identity Safe data.

That was going to be the next step I was going to list; there is no point running the Norton Auto-Fix if there is a threat on the computer modifying the settings, hence why I requested the user do Full Scans with the noted products.

Re: Firewall turned off

Hello...

I tried to download and install both but the first one wasn't happy. The second one, 'Superspyware' downloaded ok so I installed that one.

I ran a scan with it and it detected 183 'adware tracking cookies' so I removed them.

Is this only supposed to be used occasionally, as I thought it would conflict with the Norton 360 I already have installed?

Thanks for the advice and help.

Re: Firewall turned off

The SuperAntiSpyware and the free versions of Malwarebytes do not conflict with Norton as they do not have any real time scanners running in the background.

You can run them as often as you feel necessary. Try once a week to see what is found. Then you can increase or decrease the frequency as necessary.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Identity Safe data.

Re: Firewall turned off

Hi, Wayne,

When you say the first one that you tried to Download "wasn't happy", what do you mean?  I will help you try and fix this issue so that you are able to run a Full Scan with this product.

Both these products, the free products, are fine to have installed on your system as these can be used as an on-demand scanner as these have no Real-Time Protection.  You can run these products Full Scan as frequently as you like; it is recommended you Run a Full Scan at least once every week or two weeks.

Please let me know if you're still getting the fault, where the Firewall turns off upon system Start-Up.
