Adware or something has infected my computer, but Norton does not detect it

The title is fairly explanatory. Something has infected my computer, covering all browsers (IE, Firefox and Chrome) with adverts where there are normally none. I've done quick scans and full scans, and all Norton can find are some tracking cookies (which it deleted, but this did not fix the problem).

A McAfee scan showed that apparently something about tracksrv was at work. I looked into it, but I have no idea what programs are safe to download and use (I don't want to risk downloading something only to make my PC's condition worse).

I tried to download Norton Power Eraser, but I just get a long error:

Could not find a part of the path 'e:\sym_logs\rescue_tools\npe_2013-7-31.log'.

Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.

I'm using Norton 360, Windows 7 SP1.

Any help and solutions would be HUGELY appreciated.

Re: Adware or something has infected my computer, but Norton does not detect it

You should post this in the new Malware Discussion board for help removing this problem. http://community.norton.com/t5/Malware-Discussion/bd-p/Malware

Start by reading Guidelines in the first post at the top of the page.

Be sure you do not run any scans or utilities until instructed by the Malware Expert (Quads), as changes made with those programs can remove the traces of the malware that are needed to diagnose and fix the problem.

No problem. That area is new and maybe could be more prominent in the main Community page.
