N360 does not detect PassShow AddIn

I use IE in Win 8.1. Two days ago I started getting a slew of advertising popups, some of which seemed legit but they were so extensive as to render IE unusable. However several of the links in the popups tried to download malware which N360 intercepted. I ran a Quick Scan and a Full Scan with no issues detected. Further research showed the PassShow AddIn installed. Once uninstalled the problem disappeared. My concern is that PassShow is clearly malware given its behaviour and yet N360 failed to detect it. Should this not be rectified?

   Thanks

Welcome,

There are things you can do to help yourself, should you elect to do so. Do a search for free on demand scanners. Select one or two to keep on your desktop. [several are often recommended here] Once a week or so, and when an uninvited problem appears, run the on demand scanner in addition to the Norton scan.

A sad fact of computing life today is that infections are a 'when' not an 'if',

Also, no single security product is able to protect you 100% of the time from 100% of the threats being released by the thousands daily. This is the reason for the recommendation to have an active scanner [Norton] and an on demand scanner.

This type of affliction is called a PUP (Potentially unwanted program).  It is annoying, sometimes hard to get rid of and tends to invite friends.  Having said that, it is not malware, and people often download it themselves when bundled with other software.
