I have to admit that I have been there since Norton was just known for their Antivirus and Systemworks. I have never had problems with keeping my computer protected. However, when it comes to spyware, adware, malware, browser hacks, it seems that Symantec keeps dropping the ball even before this beta. Come on guys! I like the software but I want to see my computer fully protected. I know that it cannot be "completely" protected but these small guys are able to detect something that you can't? After doing a complete comprehensive scan my computer was listed as "Virus Free" from 360.4 Beta's scan. This is suppose to mean, "No worms, trojans, w32's, spyware, malware, adware, browser hacks" and so on. THEN I do a scan with a program that is based out of New Zealand and it detects a list of "bots" such as "Zango", "Burstmedia", "CAsalemedia", "Microsoft.WindowsSecurityCenter_disable" I began to feel that Norton is missing some very important pieces to their detection definitions.

PerfectBlack, like you, I too have been an ardent fan of Norton products - right from the days it was called Peter Norton Computing Inc. I am quite confident that Norton AntiVirus, Norton 360 and Norton Internet Security are the BEST security products available. I shall refer to all the nasty things you mention (and anything you omitted mentioning as well!) as 'Security Risks'. Firstly, many AntiVirus products report security risks when there aren't any at all. This is a ploy: scare you of a (non-existant) security risk through their free product and goad you into purchasing their commercial release! In fact, people using freeware Security products are sitting ducks for such companies: they are the ones who 'discover' a new virus that their free product can only detect, not repair!!! Want to get rid of the risk? Buy their commercial product! The important thing is how a company handles Zero Day attacks - i.e., when a completely new security risk with no known cure is first detected. Symantec have consistently beat others in the run-up to patching such security issues. So, I'd not be bothered with what most other security products 'come up with'! Hi WellOiledPC (Don't take this as Bashing the product we're testing. I just want an improved Norton) I understand where you're coming from. The thing is - I beta-test a lot of products, AOL, SONY Entertainment, so on and on. And I am always having to "read" my registry and my hard drive info to see if there are "questionable" items or files. I am old school when it comes to my computer.. I go down the lines one by one. I have used this software for about few years now, and it is very legit, if it has been listed in several top named PC mags like Maximum PC and such (That is where I found them.) Don't get me wrong, hand downs Norton has the ball when it comes to protecting from Trojans, viruses, and worms. I am asking about even more added protection. This program is not like your posted comments - let me give a "bad" or "easy detect" example (The cheesy webpage design that blinks 'your registry has been compromised! CLICK HERE to Scan.', which instantly hacks your web browser, so it can upload its 'Fake' Anti-virus program) i.e. WinAntiVirus2000 or WindowsAVProtector. These are just a few examples that I have dealt with by hand while I have had Norton on the computer. I didn't DL them, they UL'd by my visit to other websites and they were not blocked or detected. The program is Shareware and can be easily removed or uninstalled. I agree, that I should not take lightly with all the imitation AV freebies. I am, However, specifically referring to being able to go online and be able to browse a page, that may or may not have such "webhacks" and not have to worry about being "jumped"
