When right clicking the little Norton Icon in right hand Taskbar, could there be an Option in the Popup to view if any Scans are in progress.

Also, if possble, to click on any 'Running' scan, to view it's progress window.

When I shut down the PC, it would then be a 'quick'  way of  checking to see if any scans are running.

If there is, then  I can choose whether to switch off there and then.

Or tick the box   "Shut down computer on completion", in the scan window and let the scan finish knowing I didn't have to go back to switch off.

If you leave the PC, and it is in idle state for min 10 minutes, Norton will run some task what you can check on the Background Tasks window (main window -> click on the "bars icon"). If you move your mouse or push any key it will stop these task, so when you use the PC it will not do any scans or tasks (only if you run them manually).

When I want to shut down my PC, I want a quick way to check if a scan is running, If NO, I shut down the PC myself. If YES, I tick box to let it to complete the scan and then it shuts down the PC automatically for me when it's finished. Opening up the Norton window and going that way seems unnecessarily to long winded.

But when you move the mouse a little or push any key, Norton WILL STOP every background task, so no scan is running while you are going to the Start Menu and click on Shut down.
This way of program working is not allowing you to select what to stop or finish either, because while you are checking it (click on anything), it will stop the process. It is designed to run the background tasks only when the computer is in idle (when you are doing nothing on the PC), and no full screen window is open (like watching a film in full screen). When you do anything on the PC it runes no scan. So if you are not running a manual scan (what you can see, and kinda know when it will be finished) I think this option/function to check the background tasks is useless.
The other way I wrote in my earlier post is only for checking too what WAS running during the idle time, not for stop or select anything to finish. Plus if you want to run some of the background tasks manually (like Insight Optimizer), you can run it from there too, but that is again not an automated background task, it was run by you....

I understand what you are telling me, but could I put one scenario forward,

I have quite a few large drives and not a lot of idle time during week.

But I would like everything checked once a week.

So in 'Settings  --  Task Shedulling  --  Automatic Tasks', and I leave everything ticked.

Then in 'Shedulling' I select 'Weekly --  Fri  --  16:00 hrs.

Then on Fri at 17:00 hrs I could click icon, it could tell me an 'Idle time scan' is in progress'.

I then tick a box to 'Close when finished' and press enter.

My pc would then become idle and all tasks are done, and it switches off when finished.

The m/c is not left on 'till Mon. morning and all tasks completed.

Without leaving m/c on all weekend.

I suppose all this will appear unnecessary to you, but thanks for listening/ reading, ( If you've got this far).

Suppose I'll have to let this go,

OK, so we are talking about Scheduled scans.... :)
If you set the PC this way, I think you should not select the "only in idle time" option. If you select it, norton will only do the scans during idle time, what as you wrote you have not so much during your PC use. Maybe it would be better, if you schedule a time when you can leave your PC up (ie. Friday 23:00) and it will do the scans while you are sleeping. Without the idle option scans are usually faster (I do not know why, but as I saw on my pc idle scans are slower a bit than normal ones), and it will be always finished.
What you need I think is an option on the Scheduling tab under the "only in idle time" for PC shut down. I think that would be the best way to set this up.

In a previous thread we were talking about feature requests (http://community.norton.com/norton/board/message?board.id=N360_4_pb&thread.id=126) where Tony Weiss said 360 4.0 is mostly feature complete, but if we have good suggestions maybe those will be implemented in 5.0. I hope your feature request will be somehow developed, but I don't think it will be done for this release... :(

Just thought a quick right click, tick a box, and then a quick drink and let Norton shut it down when it's all tucked up.

Have to wait now and see what gives

Thanks for time and patience.
