Now that I have solved my security issues not allowing me to create a backup set I am disappointed to see that the resulting backup is encrypted. Encrypted backup is useless as far as I am concerned. If my system goes down, I will not have time to setup a new system c/w Norton360 or find a machine that has it already installed. I need to be able to plug my aux hard drive into another machine and access the files I need within minutes to ensure I am able to meet my business's commitments. Rebuilding a machine comes later as I have time. Can Norton 360 V3 be set up to create a unencrypted backup set? If not, I will need to turn off the backup and buy a product that does this properly. Too bad because Norton used to do it so well before some programmer thought they new better than the user community that said no we do not want this.

Hi SENWI The Norton 360 backup is encrypted for security reasons, but I am sure that you knew that already. Given the circumstances you describe a better option for you would be to use Norton Ghost for your backups and system images as it has the flexibility you require in being able to restore files without having the product installed. The new Ghost 15 (out very shortly) also allows you to restore of full image using only the Ghost disk. Thanks Message Edited by mdturner on 07-11-2009 08:48 AM

The point is that the customers of this product do not want encryption and those that need to protect say a memory stick can easily encrypt the whole stick with a separate utility. Ghost has never been a dependable product. I have tried using it over 10 years and have always been happy that I had another form of backup available as inevitably the ghost restore always fails on some level. The Norton 360 used to work well for backup. Now the backup portion of the program is much less desirable. It is a shame as the product otherwise is great. Guess it is time to buy ViceVera and turn off the 360 backup Sean

Hi Sean I understand that, as your personal view. I prefer to have my backups encrypted as they are on removable media. I have also used Ghost for many years on some of my PCs and have never had any issues with image failures or file/folder failures. Ghost 15 is on its way (a couple of weeks) - give it a try, you may just like it. Thanks md Message Edited by mdturner on 07-11-2009 06:51 PM
