Hi

Am trying to recreate your problem here.

On your Laptop, have you backed up anything to the root of your main drive, i.e. C:?

If not, just back up a small batch of Files to that drive, say just tick 'My Documents' and 'Internet Favourites', or one of the other boxes.

And run the Backup.

This will put the folder named 'N360_BACKUP' onto the root of that drive, if there wasn't one there already

Then does it force the Window to popup when you do 'Restore' and click 'View All.

If it does, insert your Ext. drive and click 'Refresh' at bottom of that window.

If not, does the window popup if you click the link, 'No backup set selected' , in blue, on the left of View All ?

Message Edited by boneidle on 13-01-2010 08:25 PM

Message Edited by boneidle on 13-01-2010 08:38 PM

Hope someone can share some insight on this.....

I backed up my music, pictures, etc...to an external drive (succeeded, verified, etc..), so I may restore it to both my laptop and my new pc.

However, once I installed 360 on either machine, went to restore the backup set, clicking on 'view all' (to select which set I want to restore) does nothing. Doesn't hang, doesn't think, nothing.

I tried it on the pc that I had the source files, and did the backup from, and it worked......so I am not sure what gives. Any clues?

Just to clarify things a bit.

I assume that you used the N360 'Backup Manager' to back up your Files to your External drive.

When you use Windows Explorer, can you see th 'N360_BACKUP' folder, on your ext. drive ?

When you try to Restore your Files using N360, can you see the 'Backup Set' name that you gave the files when you backed them up, using the N360 'Manage Backup Sets' option ?

If so, with that name, does it give the drive letter of the ext. drive ?

Message Edited by boneidle on 08-01-2010 04:42 PM

Yes I used the backup manager. And yes I can see the backed up folder on the ext drive. I can see the backup set name in the manager. However, I cannot specify the set to be restored.

When you click 'View All', does a window popup, in which you can 'Highlight' your backup set and click OK ?

After highlighting, i.e. ticking 'Radio' button, the 'OK' button at bottom should turn yellow.

No. That's what isn't happening. But if I try to restore on the original computer (where I first backed the files up), it works.

On one of the other pc's, have you tried backing up some files to the ext. drive, using a different Set name.

And then seeing if you can restore them to itself, and also restore them to the pc you used to back up your first lot.

GWBancroft Hi.

I had similar situation just now when I backed up onto a memory stick, but put it into a Folder on the stick.

I had to transfer the 'N360_BACKUP' Folder on to the root of the ext. memory stick.

( It doesn't see it, if it's in another named folder.)

After that, I put the 'mem stick' into another PC, and tried to restore.

I also got a blank window after I clicked 'View All. ( which just stuck there.)

I had to click 'Refresh', at the bottom left corner of that page.

A rotating circle popped up at the top right of that page, saying 'Refreshing restore locations'

After it finished, I got the option to restore from my Ext. Drive.

Don't know if this is any help to you.

If not, I'll keep trying.

Message Edited by boneidle on 12-01-2010 06:22 PM

Message Edited by boneidle on 12-01-2010 06:24 PM

Another way to possibly get your 'Backed up' files on to your Laptop etc.

Connect the Ext. Drive to you Laptop

When you open it up in Windows Explorer, on the root of that drive, you should see an executable file named -- ARestore.exe

Double click it, and a Norton 'Portable Restore' window should open.

In that window should be the name of your 'Backed Up Set'.

( If you have more than one Backup Set, there is a small dropdown 'triangle', which you click to select which 'Set' you want.)

Click 'Select Files to Restore'

Select the files you wish to restore, ( They may all be ticked by default.)

Select 'Custom Location' at bottom, as you want to put them on different pc.

Click 'Choose'. and select, or 'Make a new folder' of where you wan't them to go.

Click OK, and then Click 'Restore Selected'

PS

On the first window there is an option to 'Launch Norton 360',

I don't know if will help to get N360 to recognise your Ext. drive.
