The USB does show up in drive "E:". I just got the USB yesterday and it has 8 GB, yet when I plug it in, it looks like it's backing up but then the message says "backup destination is full". I tried to transfer a small file to the USB and it says that its full. How can it be full when I just got it yesterday? I recently updated the Norton program when Norton alerted me to the new update. I didn't have this problem before the update. Any suggestions?

I have the Norton Antivirus 360 which is updated. I've always backed up using a USB drive in the E: drive without a problem. I knew that I was running out of space on it so today when I was prompted to backup my files, it stopped in the middle of the back up to tell me there was no more room on the backup destination. So, I put in my new USB drive and it won't back up. It keeps saying that the backup destination is full, but how can it be when I just bought the USB drive? I've never encountered this problem before and need to know how to back up my files because its not working.

Can you goto the Manage backup window. Under the "where" tab. can you see the drive? If yes, then how much free space is shown? Can you try refresh button on that tab and see if that solves your issue?

Just to confirm is the Norton 360 version on your machine is 4.0? If not, can you update to 4.0?

See http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-360/Norton-360-v4-is-now-available/td-p/205021 for details.

Also - can you tell me the amount of free space you see on the "Where" tab on the "Manage backup" window?

I have v 4.0.

When I put in the USB drive on the side of my laptop, the drive shows up as "E:" (otherwise, E: does not show up under the Where tab when the USB drive is not put in). My new USB drive has 8 GB. Plugged in, it shows 7.9MB under the Available and Total columns. Shouldn't it read 8 GB since that is the capacity of the USB drive?

I didn't have this issue before the upgrade to v4.0. Any suggestions?

If it is a new USB drive, and you have not saved any data into it, then go ahead and reformat the USB drive. You can refer the USB drive manual for further instructions on this. After formatting it, right-click on USB drive and then run a Scan using your Norton program. Now, go to Manage Backup settings and make sure that you are backing up data of less than 8 GB. If you are trying to backup data more than 8 GB, you will see the message "Backup destination full" again. You can try to run the backup after that.

I formatted it to FAT (default option for Windows). I'm still having the same problem. It will back up some files and then the "backup destination is full" window pops up. I checked the USB drive and there is still a little bit of free space left. The new USB drive says it has the capacity for 8 GB, yet the capacity displayed under the tab under My Computer says the capacity is 7.95 MB?

Did you purchase the USB drive from authorized dealer?

I have heard about users who have got cheated when they purchased USB drive from Online Shopping Web sites. I would suggest you to contact the USB drive manufacturer immediately and check the authenticity of USB drive you purchased.

Yogesh

You are seeing free space of 7.9 MB (not GB) in a drive of 8GB in both "My computer" and "Manage backup" window. That is absurdly low for a drive that is supposed to be empty. Can you try a couple of things:

1. Take the USB drive to a friend's computer, plug it in and see if you see a different free space value?

2. Get a friend's USB drive to your computer and repeat the steps in 1.

This will give you an idea if there is a problem in the drive or in your computer.
