Hello stratolynne.

You can try disabling windows built-in burning capabilities.

This has been known to give 'drive in use' errors.

To disable it, do this:

1. Double click to open My Computer icon on desktop.

2. Right click cd/dvd drive and select Properties.

3. Click the Recording tab.

4. Uncheck 'Automatically eject cd after writing' and 'Enable cd recording'.

5. Apply and Ok.

6. Reboot/Restart the computer.

7. Try to backup to cd again.

Let us know how it goes.

Dave

When trying to use Norton 360 Backup on Windows XP SP3, the following error message is immediately displayed:

Results

The disk drive maybe busy or unavailable. Make sure to close any running programs and try again.

Does anyone have any ideas what the problem is and how to get backup working?

Thanks.

Hi,

Are you using Norton 360 V1 or V2? If V1, try upgrading to V2. You can download the trial from the Symantec website and install it over the top of V1.

And are you trying to backup a virtual drive?

To determine which version of N360 you are running:

Open the main N360 window.

Look in the top right corner:

In v1 you will see "Support" and "Help" as separate links. Click on "Support" and then click on "About Norton 360."

In v2 you will see "Help and Support" as a single link. Click on that and then click on "About N360" from the dropdown menu.

~scott

Sorry stratolynne.

Without knowing exactly what you have installed on your system, there isnt much more that I can suggest.

Can you make a list, or provide screenshots, of your (Add/Remove programs list in XP) (Programs and Features).

I do know that Creative Audigy (sound card) has/had an application that accesses/uses the cd/dvd drive (I cant remember what the name is, and I cant find it on google).

Also, Nero (older Nero) had a service for the cd also (again, cant remember the name).

Also, run through the list of services to see if there are any cd/dvd specific services listed (you can also provide screen shot or list of current services).

You can access the services screen this way:

1. Click Start (or windows icon on Vista), then Run.

2. Type in 'services.msc' (without quotes), and click OK.

Dave
