Error code 8920,201 - virus definitions not updated

Hello,

I have a home PC running on windows XP which doesn't get used all that often. Having fired it up today, i launched the auto update for Norton 360 but the updated did not apply virus definitions and therefore is incomplete.

I have rebooted the PC several times and re-launched the update each time but with the same result each time.

The date is showing as Friday 6th Jan 2012 and a time of 22:30 as I type.

My 360 works on the other kit i'm using, just not on this PC.

Any advice on how I can rectify this issue.

Welcome,

I'm guessing that you are running NSS. The 'usual' fix is to run live update. If you get an error message you reboot and try again. Obviously you've already been there and done that.

You mention the time showing on your system clock. Does that match the actual time at your location? If not, that is the first thing to fix. If it is we'll move on.

The next step is a bit more drastic. So, save your identity safe data before going any farther.

Do a control panel uninstall of the program reboot and reinstall the program. Run live update until the program tells you that all of the updates have been downloaded and installed.

Please report back at whatever point you reach if you need more help or after all is well so you can close this problem out

Hello ndmerc,

There has been an ongoing problem with Live Update now for months. It often works fine for several days, then you may notice similar problems again. Manually running live update at a later time often works, but over time all updates will install on there own. If the problem persists, let us know.

Hi,

I seem to have the same problem. I have Norton 360 5.0 installed on 3 computers. I have a D-Link wireless router. On 1 of the 3 computers LiveUpdate always fails downloading the virus definitions, although every other update works just fine. Manual download from Norton website solves the error every time but I'm looking for a way to get rid of this problem.

Good evening all,

the good news i'm now fixed using maeczellm's option of a manual update however i must thank dickevans and Krusty13 and Vineeth for taking the time and effort to replying also. I stopped short of an uninstall & reinstall optionas theis PC's a dog to work with at the best of times. Vineeth, I did try to use the hotfix but I couldn't get past the password following email link and again, with this PC's temprament you never know what it'll do next!
