I've been using SyncBack Freeware (http://www.2brightsparks.com/freeware/freeware-hub.html) to back up my files. It works great for backing up files to an external HD and actually lets you see what you're backing up unlike Norton which you can't tell what's been backed up. They have pro versions that you can buy but the free version works good for me.

I still use the Norton backup but the problem is that although when I run a backup with Norton it tells me the back up is completed, I still get the message that it hasn't been completed and that I need to "fix" it so I have no idea if Norton is actually backing anything up or not! Frustrating indeed!

After the last update, I had the same backup problem many other have had: the "Fix Now" problem that wouldn't fix. I went to Live Chat and they helped me uninstall and reinstall Norton 360 [V6 Premium].

But now my backup set has disappeared from the "Manage Backup Sets" window. The last backup [two weeks ago!] is still online, but the only backup I can do now is to start from scratch. It's 11 GB so I don't want to start all over again.

I tried to get help from Live Chat but gave up after an hour because they couldn't fix the problem.

So does anyone know how to re-establish the connection to an online backup set?

 Thanks,

 Scott

Thanks for replying. I've already tried that. I went through all of the steps and it didn't help. Backup recognizes my sets stored online, but I don't want to restore them because they'd contain files that are older than the current ones on my computer. Backup still doesn't list the backup set I created so I can continue keeping it up to date. It only lists the default.

Scott

Hi

You'll not be able to update the old backup set. The default set which is showing right now will take the new files into backup. To Delete the Old files in your Secure online storage follow the steps here.

So you're saying that, through a glitch in your software, I'm going to have to completely rebuild an 11.5 GB backup set and upload it all over again. Plus pay my service provider for the extra bandwidth. Since there's no guarantee this won't happen again, I don't see any reason why I should renew my subscription.

You don't have to upload the files that are already backed up in your Online storage...The Old backup set cannot be updated but you can restore the files in that backup set...You can remove the files that you don't want to be there in your online storage following the steps in the previous post.

Here's the latest episode in the sad saga of Norton 360's backup:

I spoke to a case manager at Norton who told me that the default backup set would recognize the files I had already backed up online. So, hoping he knew what he was talking about, I built a completely new backup set, but when I went to back it up, it told me that it would take more room than I had on the online drive, and it wasn't recognizing any of the files already backed up.

Now I'm getting the Backup "At Risk" message again, which won't go away no matter how many times I go through the "click here to fix" button.

Looking for another Backup AND Security program.

 Scott

Thanks for sharing that. Frustrating, isn't it? Norton loses major points in my book for unleashing a program on us with such a major flaw. It makes me suspicous about the rest of the Suite and I'll be looking for an alternative at renewal time. Actually, I'm looking for a backup alternative now.
