They will probably want a copy of your police report so do that first.

Do make sure to protect yourself by changing passwords for anything you may have a record of on your laptop and don't use the same password to protect anything on your replacement machine. One of the gurus here also suggested in another thread that you change the security Question and Answer that some sites use as a fall back if you forget your password since they are used as an easier breakthough by thieves .

Hello!

Sorry to hear about your laptop being stolen.

Unfortunately, there is probably no way to track your laptop through the Norton product that was installed on it. You can contact Symantec customer service, and they will release your license so you can use it again on another computer, though, at least. And you should of course report it stolen to the police. It is unlikely to make their priority list either, but chances to get it back will be higher than by not reporting it anyway.

Hope you do get it back!

That's all I do in my job is make sure that serial numbers are correctly reported by pawn brokers and owners so I can reunite them.

If the laptop has been registered with the manufacturer they can flag it so that nothing can be downloaded from their site to it.

Hugh has already mentioned making the changes in passwords and security responses so there's not too much more you can do.

When you replace it consider Norton AntiTheft and or LoJack. Both products will give the police a much better chance of finding the computer.

There are software companies that has programs you can install on netbooks, notebooks and or desktop computer to track your stolen computers. I saw a few at Staples store. I think I also saw one from Norton for smartphones. Where it will protect your private stuff from dum people. If your computer gets stolen. You call the company that you bought the program from . . . They lock it down over the air or WIFI or NET connection. Can somehow track it down. Sometimes can see who took it by webcam use.

Did I get that right!!!!

I look into this also.
