I have the same problem .... Firefox the Toolbar is still version 2012.7.3.1 after updating.

To get latest of Norton Toolbar version (Norton Toolbar: 2012.7.4.1), please run Live update repeatedly until there are "no updates required" and restart the system whenever it asks for reboot and check the behavior again.

Hi,

Wild idea - uninstall FF, shut down, take a ten to twenty minute break. Reboot, run live update until the program tells you that all of the updates have been downloaded and installed. Then do a warm boot and reinstall FF.

Dick, tks for your input on this. But, tried your suggestions (above). Didn't work. Still same 2012.7.3.1 Toolbar.

Don't know if this would matter or not -- but whenever I do an install of FF I always do a "Custom" (not "Standard") one. Only difference is that you get to pick the file folder where the install goes. I create and name a special FF Program Files folder for this and install to that. Shouldn't matter.

Also, as of a couple of days ago, IE8 *does* have the new 7.4.1 Toolbar. But I want my FF.

You found the problem. Norton doesn't recognize the 'custom install' the programs aren't in their 'usual' places.

You might try this - uninstall FF, reboot, reinstall in the default location. If you get your toolbar then you might be able to copy the whole thing over to your custom foldeer and retain your toolbar. No promise, just a thought. :smileywink:

Hi Mcampos & Robby,

First of all since neither of you stated which Norton Product you are running, we'll have to let you select which product to reinstall after removing your current Norton Product using the following instructions in the exact order they are listed.

Robby, please accpet the normal install location in lieu of the custom one you have been selecting. If this works, you can always try to move it later and see if that causes your problem.

Please do the following in the exact order I list:

Totally uninstall Firefox

Download a fresh copy of Firefox 14 from here: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/new/

Install the fresh copy of firefox.

Download a fresh copy of NIS 2012 from here: www.norton.com/nis12 or N 360 http://www.norton.com/n360s_6 (Standard Edition) or N 360 Premiere http://www.norton.com/n360p_6

If you use Identity Safe, backup your Identity Safe data. Due to the critical nature of the information contained in ID safe we would recommend backing that up manually first just as a precaution even though you will choose to retain all settings when removing your Norton product.

Remove your Norton Product using Programs and Features (Add/Remove Programs if you are using XP) - do not run the NRT as you'll want to keep your Identitiy Safe and other settings.

Install the fresh copy of NIS/N360.. Run LiveUpdate as many times as necessary for it to respond that there are no updates found (rebooting as requested by LiveUpdate).

Once all that is done in the order I am asking for you to do it, please check for Firefox 14.01 and also look at "Add-on's" and see if Norton Toolbar 2012.7.4.1 and Norton Vulernability Protection 11.0.0.243-2 are listed and shown as enabled.

Do you now have the Norton Toolbar in FF 14.01?

Yank, I really appreciate all your efforts on this. And, I have posted -- several times -- all of my specs on what I'm using: Win XP SP3, NIS 2012, FF 14.0.1, etc, etc.. [Gets a little tiresome to have to do this over-and-over again, each time I get moved to a new Board b/c my problem won't get solved.]

As for the other things: I'd try most of them. But I'm just not willing to Uninstall NIS ( use NRT) -- which also removes my GHOST 15 and NU 15 -- then reinstall them all again, re-run to establish base-lines, etc. Too much of a hassle, esp with all the huge LU's, etc. And, seems like something always goes "wrong" on these new installs, leading to more-and-more problems.

Spent *way* too much time on this issue anyway. I'll just "live with it" for the time being -- or more properly, "live without it" (Norton Toolbar). If I get hit with too many bad web-sites I'll switch to Norton Safe Search (which has the "Green Checks," but not the good search options Google has).

Or, if that doesn't work, go to IE8, which now has the newest Toolbar.

As I've said before, recently (on some Board -- I've been to so many), this problem has happened to me several times over the years. Usually it gets "fixed" somehow, with later versions of FF, Windows updates, NIS updates, etc. I'll hope for similar results this time.

Thanks for the info and I am sorry for not remembering it- but I also visit many threads and can't remember everyone's systems.

There is no mention of running the Norton Removal Tool - as a matter of fact I did say "do not run the NRT as you'll want to keep your Identitiy Safe and other settings". I know what a hassle it is having to reinstall all your other Norton programs. Also the downloads I linked to are the latest versions of the programs and although require liveupdates, it is not the same as having to run all the liveupdates from an older download/CD. I do try to make this procedure as short, complete, and as risk free as possible.

I know you have been having problems with the last few FF updates, and as I suggested above, perhaps if you would put FF back to the default location rather than a custom one - it may fix you future problems. If you try it and it doesn;t affect the outcome, then you can always move it back - just trying to eliminate it as a possibility.

After I did the updates ... finally the toolbar appeared with version 2012.7.4.1.

It was the only way I found.

@ Mcampos - glad you got it sorted - just one clarification for others looking at your solution - that is not the Norton Removal Tool you used - it is in fact the Norton Remove and ReinstallTool - they are two totally different tools with differnt purposes.

He has the exact problem I do. I've done everything above and more. I won't even start on what I've tried. Good thing for Norton Ghost. If it doesn't work then put it back. I've had this same problem for many earlier verisons. We shouldn't have to uninstall anything to get this to work.

Fully agree with Harley. IMO, this is a "design problem" NIS has. Users should *not* have to take such drastic steps to get a "normally-available" product feature (Norton Toolbar) to work -- esp when it seems so easily updated on IE (like it did on my IE8).

And, @ yank: I do appreciate that you guys (and gals) have many, many things to keep track of. And we're so thankful for all of your help. So.. the fault is really mine for not re-entering my specs on each Board. Wonder if there is a way to have this spec info placed into a "Signature" that would go on each post, automatically?

Also... I've been using Norton products for a long time (over 10-years?)... and in that period have had a *lot* of computer problems -- many/most not the fault of Norton, but generally involves them, in removing/re-installing. My experience on that is I end-up having to use the NRT to fix the problem. "Regular" uninstalls just don't work. Too much Registry stuff gets left behind.

So again... C'mon Norton, get this fixed in a "reasonable" way. Don't put the onus on your long-time, faithful users.

Still no new Toolbar. You know... I was wondering. I recently installed NU 15 and ran some of this to "clean" (and compact) my Registry -- a week or so ago. Could that have messed up NIS so it can't accept the new Toolbar?

If so, guess the only thing to do is re-install NIS? But... maybe not do NRT?

Glad you got the signature thing to your liking and you will not have to type that info over and over! :smileywink:

I am not sure if the Registry cleanup/compact could have caused your problem or not as I never use a Registry Cleaner (unless absolutely necessary). I know the one associated with N 360 does not ask for permission to remove items before removing them - I like more control over what is removed - so I have never run N 360's registry cleaner. If I had to run a registry cleaner, I would selct one that I at least can say yes or not to theremoval. I amnot familiar enough with NU 15 to know if it asks or not - so I won;t comment on it.

Perhaps someone else more knowledgeable with NU 15 can answer your question. You may even want to research the Other Norton Products board as that is where I believe the NU 15 information and questions would be located.

If you go for the reinstall of NIS, please follow my suggested procedure here: http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-Toolbar-Norton-Identity/Toolbar-is-still-version-2012-7-3-1-after-updating/m-p/766348/highlight/true#M2217 This has worked in the past when all else seemed to fail and it does not use the Norton Remvoal Tool.
