Scotland has earthquake

In MD Turner territory Scotland has had an Earthquake of 3.5 magnitude, don't worry you won't get aftershocks from it.

That was about a week ago! They also had one in North Yorkshire. Not uncommon in N Wales with cottages losing slates and chimney pots!

Even Manchester is on the Pendleton Fault and I remember waking one night because the bed was gently swaying!

Hi Q/Hugh

I didn't feel a thing. That's the 3rd 3.5 magnitude shock in the UK in the past 3 months. Has NZ gone into the export business?

My bed used to sway regularly also until I discovered a strong connection to Red Wine.

Sometimes I wish some would export.

Sept 4th (3rd for some) had the 7.1 magnitude, Since we have had 464 aftershocks 3.5 magnitude and above

4532 shakes in total (added so far) most are shallow in depth.

Yes there was a 5.9 magnitude, BUT with a focal depth of 150kms, so deep, by the time it reaches the surface it looses a lot of it's punch. No damage basically, just like a big truck going past sort of thing instead.

I've heard today that there was another large quake in NZ. This time I heard people were killed and that it was a 6.3 I think. Hope all is well this time too with you.

Have no Water, Sewage, just got Power back awhile ago, (don't know how long for) hard to get around the city with streets damaged etc.

Shaking intensity in the city was much greater for this earthquake than the magnitude 7.1 earthquake from last September, or any of the aftershocks. The highest shaking was recorded at Pages Road Pumping Station at 188 %g, with readings of 127 %g at Heathcote Valley Primary School and 107 %g at Hulverstone Road Pumping Station.

This is due to the proximity of the epicentre to the city and the shallow depth. The earthquake has a reverse faulting mechanisim

Still getting good shakes now.

Horrible -- although luckily not as devastating as the Haiti earthquake. Google Earth had updated images there shortly after that hit and all you could see was the outline of the cathedral.

I see Google Earth has flagged the center but the images are still December 2010 .... some of the street view pictures show how impressive the Cathedral and it's tower must have looked.

Tuesday 63 aftershocks added to the data so far

For "Wednesday 74 aftershocks added to the data so far" 74 is now 77

For "Thursday 24 aftershocks added to the data so far, (Today, and today is still going) 24 is now 48

and "The 6.3 Shake is an aftershock of the 7.1 Earthquake in September, Total aftershocks 4990" is now 5019

I am in Christchurch, on the South side, still no water or sewage and aftershocks still going.

I have not marked my location on the map, just below the yd of the name on the map Sydenham above the name Spreydon

I was on the PC at home (here now) and closing the back door, well the PC didn't stay on for long. I ended flying into the floor face down and decided to stay there as bugger trying to get up on my sticks. hahahaha could be a good UTUBE video.

Map zoomed out of shakes added so far. None of the dots are for shakes over a week old.
