Profile Badges are now enabled

We now have a new feature called "Profile Badges". Your Profile Badge is a customizable badge that allows you to display information about yourself whenever you post in the community. You can include your avatar, kudos count, community rank, post count, and latest post. You can also create badges that you can display on Blogger pages, on Wordpress pages, or on other website pages.

To create a profile badge:

1) Go to My Settings > Social Connect > Badge Settings > Profile Badge

2) Click the check box for Display your profile badge on your posts

3) Choose one of the themes provided. You keep the color scheme from the theme you choose.
4) Click check boxes for the items you want to display on your badge. The Preview on the right side of the page shows you how your badge will look.
5) Click Save Changes.

That's all there is to it!

To create a Blogger badge:

1) Follow the instructions above for choose a theme and content for the badge.
2) When you're satisfied with the preview you see, click Upload to Blogger and follow Blogger's instructions for incorporating the badge.

To create a Wordpress or website badge:

1) Follow the instructions above for choose a theme and content for the badge.
2) When you're satisfied with the preview you see, copy the code at the bottom of the page and paste it on your Wordpress or other website page.

One tip, do not let non Symantec employees have the same theme as the employees. Don't know if this is intended but the moderntech theme is the same theme used by most forums admins. Thus, I suggest it to be locked for non employees to avoid confusion.

I agree with mikedov the Symantec staff should have a different theme from others.

Which is my excuse for not changing mine yet. ;-)

Hi Tony_Weiss:

I have a minor complaint about the new Profile Badges. They add a huge amout of blank space to shorter posts because the badges are so large. Any chance the size could be decreased a bit so that users don't have to do so much scrolling and browsing between pages of multi-page threads in the forum?

I also agree with Andmike and mikedov that Symantec employees should have their own reserved theme for their badges. Newbies who aren't familiar with the significance of the colour-coding of user names might find this confusing.

Other than that, kudos to the designers. Very nice feature.

There are some differences (height, width and registered date written in one or two alignments) using IE8 or FF8.0. Is it a my problem?

Hi,

It's not a problem, just an undocumented feature. The display is dynamic and tends to be a bit different in various places. I guess if it becomes a real problem it can be 'fixed' but until then I'd relax and enjoy.

Hi,

I copied a color from the windows color palet into a separate file changed the extension in paint and uploaded it here.

These new badges are annoying as hell. I hate seeing them in posts. Especially the ones with animated backgounds. How in the hell are you supposed to read something with the distraction of clashing colors and crap moving around. Please allow it to be turned off for those of us who don't want to look at that crap.

I guess that I might be able to use AdBlockPlus to get rid of some of this nonsense!

Hi,

I'm not sure whether the difficulty has been caused by the background in my profile Badge, for others convenience I'm changing to a static background. And people only look into the knowledge in your post and also people searching for answers cannot be distracted that easily.

Thanks. It was not yours. I think they are all distracting, especially the animated ones. It's just my opinion. I just wish it could be turned off for those of us who do not want to see it. By the way AdBlock Plus does work.
