License questions

A week ago our hard drive failed. Since then, our local repair man has managed to clone the disk, install a replacement disk and transfer the data from the old disk to the new one.

Everything is working well as far as I can see, but Norton thinks it's been installed on a 2nd PC! We have 2 User accounts and this morning my husband got a message from NIS that he must activate the program or it would sop working soon. He did this and it's fine now - despite working normally for 3 days on the new disk without any problem!

I've just signed into my account and the details shown are as follows:

Norton Internet Security

Expiration Date: Dec 22, 2011

Protection For: 3 PCs

Remaining Activations: 1 PC

I realise that it must seem to the program that it's been installed on another PC, but it hasn't. It's the same PC with a different hard disk. What can or should I do to get this changed in my account?

A related question is that soon we'll be getting a laptop from a local shop to use in addition to our desktop. They are going to install NIS 2010 on it for us and say that I'll be able to register it OK with my existing Product Key. Is this correct and how would I do it please?

Sorry this has become somewhat long-winded! I'd be very grateful for any help or info you can give me. Thanks.

HI Madeline

You can indeed use the current activation key on your Laptop. The shop can install NIS as a trial version and you can activate it with your current key.

To recover the activation that resulted from your reinstallation on your current machine you should contact Customer Support who will reinstate it.

http://www.symantec.com/norton/support/contact/contact.jsp?pvid=cs

Hi mdturner,

Thanks. I haven't heard anything yet and I'm not sure that my email got through. There wasn't a category covering my query, so I chose the nearest one, gave all the info and pressed the 'Submit' button, but I'm not confident that the message was sent.

Anyway, I've found a telephone number for Norton support here in the UK, so I'm going to try it later today (Tuesday). I'll let you know what happens.

Hi mdturner,

Thank you, that's very kind of you. However, once I'd got through the menu button-pressing on the phone, I spoke to a very nice lady who has sorted it out for me. I was on the phone for less than 10 minutes, so maybe we're lucky in that respect here in the UK!

I've signed in to my account and it all seems to be fine now.

Thanks again for both your help and thoughtfulness, I really do appreciate it.

Madeline
