NIS 2010 and D-link DAP-1353

Hi!

I have bought an accesspoint D-link DAP-1353 to enhance my wireless network at home. But its just not possible to access the admin web page at the AP. I suspect that it is the firewall in NIS 2010 that is blocking the AP. But I have tried to turn it off without any success. I run Win7 professional.

Any idea somebody?

Do you see the new access point in the Network Security map in NIS? If so, you should set it to Full Trust.

To Open Norton Security Map, follow the steps provided below:

Open Norton Internet Security

Under Network, select Network Security Map

Check Dlink DAP is listed under Network Details tab

Now I found the map! What should I expect to see here? I have a home network (in which the accesspoint is connected to) with a D-link router, a network printer aNAS etc. I can se none of these units.

I have found the acesspoint in the map and I have set the thrust level to full. Then I guess there is some other reason than NIS tha I cant se the admin page in the browser?

Hi Speedyswede

If you are connecting the AP to extend your home network you would be better to set it up as a repeater - most D-link APs can be set up as repeaters and their web site has good tutorials on how to do this.

Yes! But the problem is still that I can not reach the administrator web page on the unit. Something is blocking it...

Hi Speedyswede

Have you tried connecting directly via ethernet cable. Are you trying to access using the default IP address 192.168.0.50 ?

Yes, that is what i am doing. I have connnected the AP to the router with an ethernet cable to get acces to the configuration in it.

Have you tried connecting directly to your PC's ethernet connection and not the Ruter in order to configure the AP?

You need to configure your PC's ethernet connection to be in the same subnet as the default on the AP and then, once you can access it, change the AP to be on the same subnet as your Router.

When I look at the network map, my PC has IP 192.168.0.194 and the AP has 192.168.0.50. Is that the same "subnet"?

If the subnet mask is 255.255.255.0 then it is OK.

The local area connection in Windows is probably defaulted to that value but you can check in Control Panel under Network.

Hi Speedyswede,

Mdturner is correct that you probably need to connect the PC directly to the AP, bypassing the router, to get to the configuration utility. Also, the manual for this product states that the browser you use needs to have Java enabled, so if you do not have Java installed on your PC you need to download it from here:

I have tried to connect the AP directly to y PC. Java is enabled. And then? I must assign a fixed IP that is in the same range as the AP? And it is TCP/IPv4 I shall edit? what is the value for "standard gateway"?

If you are using Internet Explorer try adding the AP page to your Trusted Sites (make sure to uncheck the "Require server verification" box).

did you contact dlink tech support? its possible that it could be some other type of configuration issues. since its a new router it probably has to be configured properly. delink should be able to help i think. try them and make sure that its working fine on their end. ;]
