I Have Only One (1) Computer, NIS 2011 Firewall asks me if I want to Trust or Restrict Local Network. I was not asked this in NIS 2010. I think I have a LAN connection with my ISP (broadband) cable, or is it Ethernet.. Does it matter?, Thanks,,,Gorpy1 P.S Sorry if this is a dumb question.

This is where I recommend setting it to Shared which is the default. I am wondering if perhaps somehow there is no setting there at all though I don't know how this would happen. :smileywink:

Best wishes.

Allen

As long as I know that setting deals with your computer's interaction with other computers. Setting to restricted will prevent other computers to access your computer should your network be breached. Plus, if you don't want pc's from seeing each other, you can turn on wireless isolation in your router settings.

If there is already a trust level configured for the LAN connection I don't think this question should be getting asked on startup.

I know I have never been asked that on any of the 3 computers in my home network.

Much of it boils down to my "curiousity" and to make sure that a valid trust level is already configured for the LAN interface.

Best wishes.

Allen

Hi Gorpy1,

I would recommend setting the LAN connection to Shared Trust via Network Security Map. What level does it show currently?

Have a great night's sleep, almost my bed time too! :smileyhappy:

Best wishes.

Allen

Perhaps Norton thought you have connected to a new network and ask which settings do you want to set.

Norton should be determining the network trust level automatically, based on the computer settings that it finds. It almost sounds like Trust Control is popping up all by itself, which I have never seen. It does make you wonder what network Norton is asking about, though.

Hi Send of Jive I;m not getting any pop-ups just alot of port blocking,,,,,,Thanks..Gorpy1

I once set the computer to restricted when using a library wireless network. No negative impact. The best way to prevent other pc's from seeing you in the case of a network breach is to turn on wireless isolation on your router, if it have that settings.
