Hi all,

Basically ill explain what i mean by Googleupdate attack.

Im using Norton 360

Since 1st October until 2nd December and still going on a medium virus keeps attacking my computer everyday trying to break through norton but fails. I update my norton everyday and scan almost 2 times a day but still it cannot find the virus.

Heres some pictures

All the 1's is the virus

It attacks with different actor PID every-time.

It bothers me that norton cant find the main source of the virus because even through it says no action needed it still attacks my computer and slows it down in some cases.

Any help would be great,

Thanks

Based on your screen shot, it seems that its perfectly normal. Its just that Google came a little close for comfort for Norton and it has blocked it from accessing its processes. Can you go to resolved threat history and see what threat is removed. I bet my money that its cookies.

Hi YtryitY,

Tywin7 is correct that this is not a threat. GoogleUpdate installs with many, if not all, Google applications such as Google Earth. The entries you are seeing in Norton History are Norton Product Tamper Protection events that record the actions of other programs every time that they try to access a Norton file or process. Norton blocks such attempts in order to prevent any outside agent from interfering in Norton's operations. Many system processes and application processes routinely interact with Norton in this way. GoogleUpdate is one of those that is most often seen, and I have many such events for the GoogleUpdate process that appear every day in my logs. It is not an attack and Norton is not blocking GoogleUpdate from running, but only from accessing Norton.

You can disregard all of these NPTP entries. They are normal and harmless.

In your Performance screens, if you mouse over the "Detection" icons it should give you some information about the event. Do these correspond to the GoogleUpdate events, or something else?

For the "real" virus Norton have found, go to resolved security threats and the unresolved security threats category in the log. Or you can click on the red "!" icon and click on view details.

Yeah, don't worry. This happens on all computers with Google software installed. The Google update process touches Norton's files in some way, and this is logged. It's perfectly normal, and you're not attacked in any way.
