I already tried a forum/board search for this:

Does NIS or N360 protect during instant messaging communications? The question is not about sending or receiving files; but about actual text communication information of instant messengers, and use of any online chats. The question is also both for NIS and Norton 360.

Norton(IS/360) Does have a firewall and IM scanners !

By text are you asking if Norton keeps the Conversation Protected preventing others to read(As in PC hacked/Threat which Steal private info)?

The question is, does Norton Internet Security, even Norton 360, protect The Instant Messenger program AND the computer from spyware, adware, malware, viruses, trojanswormsand allsorts of stuff, as well as other things like attempts to intrude or steal, during or after instant message activities?

I began to find an "Instant Message" or "IM" entry in the NIS helpfile, so in case something is not covered there, I still maintain my question.

Norton Does protect the system from all threats and Intrusion attempts.

You are well protected with Norton.

To make sure you stay threat free Update Windows,Java,software as well.

If you wish you can install Malware Bytes as a Second Opinion Scanner as well Here`s the Link

Hi g_cafe_c,

The risks associated with IM are similar to those with email - attachments that contain malicious files, and links that lead to malware downloads. Norton does scan files and will block downloads of known malware. As with email, however, the most important security component is the user. Don't open attachments whose contents aren't verified and don't click on links. You can't be infected by plain text in a message, but you might be tricked into opening an attachment or clicking a link that poses a risk. As with anything else, use common sense and practice safe, defensive computing.
