Where are you downloading from?

Are you sure the warning is from Norton and not from Windows?

If it is from Norton and you are downloading using the Run option then Windows may be advising you to disable any AntiVirus program you have installed -- Microsoft has a passion for this.

If this is what you are doing I suggest that when you tell the website source to download you tell it to SAVE and not to RUN and save the file to a location you can find again -- if you are uing Windows 7 it usually defaults to Library / Downloads.

Then when downloaded you can RUN the file from where it is located and if you do want to disable Norton you can cut off your internet connection for safety and then Disable Norton while installing .... but I and many people never do this and have not had problems.

Let us know if any of that fits what you are trying to do.

Hi, The box it came in says: "Norton 360 All-in-One Security Premier Edition Version 4.0"

My OS is Windows Vista Home Premium . I have Windows firewall turned off. When I try to download IE9, a window pops up titled "Security Alert" with a message stating "Your current security settings do not allow this file to be downloaded."

I have tried turning off Norton's firewall, but that does not help.

The issue is not related to Norton. It's regarding to the security settings of Windows, you can confirm it by checking the issue after removing Norton from your computer.

That sounds like a setting in your Internet Browser .....

Try:

Uuse the Default Security Zone settings that are recommended.

Tools>Internet Options - Security tab, click the "Reset all zones to
default" button.

If you do not see the Menu bar in your browser press the ALT key and then it should show while you use it and then disappear again -- or you can set it to always be visible but let's deal with one thing at a time ....

Huwyngr is correct that this is an issue of your browser security settings being overly restrictive. Adding the download sites to your Trusted Sites Zone in IE might help, but I have found that if the Internet Zone is set to a higher security setting than its default, sometimes even the Trusted Zone will not permit some downloads. Follow huwyngr's advice to set the IE security zones to their defaults.

I'm stumped. Overly strict settings in IE for the security zones and the advanced options are the cause of this notification, so if resetting them to their defaults is not working I don't know what else to suggest. What is your current browser and operating system?

fgandvjbailey

I have to stand with Hugh on this one. Do everything necessary to eliminate the "enhanced" programs from your system. Get the latest and greatest from their source sites and enjoy. Beta software is always a chance thing. Sometimes it runs like the best thing ever. And then there are other times. If I'm going to test I make sure that my backup program has just finished a full backup and I have also made a fresh image of the drive. Then I proceed slowly and carefully. If the worst happens I can restore the drive. If nothing happens I've just done a little extra work, this time.

Hope this helps

The download comes from xh_yimg_com (the lines should be dots but I'm not posting a link to there here). You should check to see if your security in IE8 prohibits that site or being redirected to that site.
