Proper forum to post of person to email for spam that looks like from Norton?

Rec'd an Email that discusses something called Norton Virus Removal Assurance if you have download insurance.

Is there a proper channel to send this email to? It does not look like it is from any Symantec addy that I know of at least.

If you would like to check it out, I would recommend that you have a chat with customer support. They should be able to tell you if it is a legit Email from Symantec.

I can confirm that an email was recently sent with important service information about the availability of Norton Virus Removal Assurance for current Norton Download Insurance customers. Additional details about this can be found at www.norton.com/VRA-FAQ.

With regards to the email sender, we typically send such notices and other Norton emails from norton@nortonfromsymantec.com. For further verification, the subject line of this email would have been "Important Service Notification about Norton Download Insurance"

Hopefully this provides the information you need to validate the email you received.

I have just received same email.

So all spammers out there this is the level of Semantic anti-phishing.

Please in future send the note to me (named) rather than dear customer otherwise you will be deleted as an attack.

@Floplot, I'm afraid the communications do not always reveal what is up with something. However thank you for the important links.

@Brendan, TY very much for the detailed information. It helps a great deal. I have recently suffered a loss of messages and folder in my email account, once I recover from that issue I will confirm the message against the information you provided. For the two messages you have left on the board I thank you that one of them was to me for a quick and informed post.

@Willirl, as per your request I will send all future spam to your address (kidding).

To everyone else thank you for the additional info. You have posted.

It depends on where the suspicious email is coming from. I would report it to your ISP as they should be protecting against spam and phishing emails also. If it is a Symantec one, you saw what to do. If it appears to come from a bank, then I would report it to the bank. If it's from a particular store, then I would forward it to the abuse center for the bank, store or what ever. I think you can always try to contact the customer support of the place that it purports to be from and they can tell you who to contact also.

I'm sorry Floplot (I always worry about misspelling your name), I had specifically meant regarding emails regarding or looking like they come from Symantec/Norton.

Unless you meant contacting customer service then I have not noticed in this thread where I send an email that is in question.

I have used the customer service option to ask about possible fake emails (which turned out to be fake) and in a response basically they did not understand what I was talking about nor did they ask to review the email.

My ISP actually has caught several strange emails looking like they are from several different companies however between the ISP filters and the N-Anti-spam program running through N360 the fake email in question was able to get through. Which is one of the reasons I was quick to open a thread here about the latest email.

Symantec should improve the wording of the text in the emails in French they send to their customers!

For a French reader it looks like at least as a spam or worst as an attempt for phishing. Sorry...

Nothing in the email gives "guarantee" (lol) that is was sent by Symantec.

Thanks for my English-speaking Canadian fellows for clearing up the content and above all the source of this email.

HI mumford88,

In addition to what Floplot says, when you receive a SPAM email you can click on "This is Spam" button. This is assuming you have a supported email client such as Outlook, etc.

This should bring up a pop-up dialog asking if you want to send the email to Symantec. You can choose yes and the email will be sent to Symantec for review. This helps to improve NIS's SPAM filtering in the future. Please see image below.

Hello AllenM, I don't know if I have had the pleasure of communicating with you in the past,

I don't know if it is the fact that I run on an older system (WinXp Home w/Outlook Express 6) or some other reason but whether I go to the Norton Anti-Spam folder and try to mark something as Not Spam or in the Inbox of OE6 and mark something as spam the only options I am given when right clicking on an email are: This is Spam, Empty Spam Folder and Open Norton Antispam (for some reason which will apparently be yet another thread in the Norton AntiSpam folder when you right click on a message it does not highlight the 'This is not Spam' option but rather the 'This is Spam' option) after which if I mark it as spam I have one final popup asking to add it to the blocked list and then exits out.

I don't know if I am in the wrong place or doing something incorrectly or it is the fact that I have an older system but I cannot find that in the Email client. {Wonder if I can convince Symantec to hold classes to teach how to maintain/fix issues? :))

From the Inbox, the "This is not Spam" option should not be available because it already resides in the normal Inbox which by definition cannot be already tagged as Spam.

However from the "Norton Antispam" folder or Junk email folder that option should be available. But before I say something could be wrong let's double check a couple of things.

Which folder does Norton send SPAM to? Is it the Norton Antispam folder or the Junk email folder? I'm asking because there was a change that took place on my system several months ago where NIS started putting SPAM messages in my Junk email folder instead of the "Norton Antispam" folder where it had always previously been placed.

So let's first identity for sure where Norton places these SPAM messages. Any SPAM message so moved by Norton should have "Norton Antispam" prepended to the subject line. For any such messages the "This is not SPAM" option should be available.
