Firefox 9.0 12/20/11 Will Norton be ready?

Firefox 9.0 is set to be on the release channel on December 20, 2011. Will Norton Toolbar and Norton Vulnerability Protection be ready?

So far Norton has done a pretty good job recently in keeping up with Firefox but who knows what FF will decide to change this time ....

Best advice is not to update FF until you know what is happening .... why rush ?

Usually I update immediately. Because the Vulnerability Protection always works. It's just Toolbar that always falls behind.

I will keep an eye here for news about it.

This was just more of heads up. I am sure Symantec is already aware of the impending date.

When a new version of FF is released, I always install it in its own directory. It will use my current profile from the older version and then I can see what is working. After it is running OK I then remove the old version The last time FF was released Norton had their update ready later that afternoon, so don't expect it at the exact time that FF is released.

I meant why update FF immediately if it's working OK for you for what it's meant to be, a browser. Norton will give you the protection before you update FF and in the past few FF major updates Norton has been updated very quickly so I don't see any reason to keep updating FF without delay just because they flood the market.

But that's just me and I use IE ....

Firefox 9.0 is out.

Just change the download url from 8.0.1 to 9.0 :smileywink:

By the way as expected Norton Toolbar is not supported. So the waiting begins.

The waiting begins when Firefox gets an official release. Firefox 9 has not been officially released.

I could be remembering incorrectly, but didn't Norton release their Firefox 8 patch before Firefox 8 was officially released?

Firefox 9 will be official tomorrow, and Norton has done a good job of releasing the update on the same day. Based on that I would look for it tomorrow, but you definately will not see it before then.

A product update has been released and has installed on my system. It requires a reboot. However, I don't have Firefox 9 installed yet, so I can't confirm if its the update for the new Firefox. Although I don't remember what the old one was, I think the Toolbar has a new version number, 2012.2.2.5

i rebooted and it didnt change...since i dont have firefox installed

That is correct. The IE version does not change.

I'm happy to report that the Toolbar is working fine in Fx 9.0. How's about that people? The Norton Toolbar was updated before Firefox 9.0 was even available on the Mozilla site.

For IE8 too the toolbar version number is still 2012.2.1.6 after update e reboot. It's 2012.2.2.5 only for Firefox. Strange indeed...

The update is working fine for Firefox 9. There is probably no reason for them to update the IE toolbar untill IE10.
