Hello senthilkumar, it worked like magic!

I would like to compile my findings after doing the workaround you have enumerated:

I didn't have any firefox extensions installed a while ago on my freshly installed Firefox 11. While doing your advice, I accidentally placed the 2 Extensions on the ThemeDirs on my first attempt thus making it like this on my extensions.ini:

[ExtensionDirs]

[ThemeDirs]
Extension0=D:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\extensions\{972ce4c6-7e08-4474-a285-3208198ce6fd}
Extension1=C:\ProgramData\Norton\{0C55C096-0F1D-4F28-AAA2-85EF591126E7}\NIS_19.5.1.2\IPSFFPlgn
Extension2=C:\ProgramData\Norton\{0C55C096-0F1D-4F28-AAA2-85EF591126E7}\NIS_19.5.1.2\coFFPlgn

When I noticed my mistake, I modified it to look like this:

[ExtensionDirs]
Extension1=C:\ProgramData\Norton\{0C55C096-0F1D-4F28-AAA2-85EF591126E7}\NIS_19.5.1.2\IPSFFPlgn
Extension2=C:\ProgramData\Norton\{0C55C096-0F1D-4F28-AAA2-85EF591126E7}\NIS_19.5.1.2\coFFPlgn

[ThemeDirs]
Extension0=D:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\extensions\{972ce4c6-7e08-4474-a285-3208198ce6fd}

But it didn't work so I tried adding a trailing \ for the entries to make it like this:

[ExtensionDirs]
Extension1=C:\ProgramData\Norton\{0C55C096-0F1D-4F28-AAA2-85EF591126E7}\NIS_19.5.1.2\IPSFFPlgn\
Extension2=C:\ProgramData\Norton\{0C55C096-0F1D-4F28-AAA2-85EF591126E7}\NIS_19.5.1.2\coFFPlgn\

[ThemeDirs]
Extension0=D:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\extensions\{972ce4c6-7e08-4474-a285-3208198ce6fd}

Then again it didn't work so I left it for a while and installed a firefox extension (DownThemAll), then I've read your post and gave it another try by removing the trailing \ . But as I'm about to remove the trailing \ , there I noticed that the 2 extension entries were erased after I installed the DownThemAll, making the extension.ini look like this:

[ExtensionDirs]
Extension0=C:\Users\Emman\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\o9la77ux.Emman\extensions\{DDC359D1-844A-42a7-9AA1-88A850A938A8}.xpi

[ThemeDirs]
Extension0=D:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\extensions\{972ce4c6-7e08-4474-a285-3208198ce6fd}

Then from there, I noticed that the extension should start at 0 and not at 1 (I started at 1 on my previous attempts). So this one finally worked when I modified it like this:

[ExtensionDirs]
Extension0=C:\Users\Emman\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\o9la77ux.Emman\extensions\{DDC359D1-844A-42a7-9AA1-88A850A938A8}.xpi
Extension1=C:\ProgramData\Norton\{0C55C096-0F1D-4F28-AAA2-85EF591126E7}\NIS_19.5.1.2\IPSFFPlgn
Extension2=C:\ProgramData\Norton\{0C55C096-0F1D-4F28-AAA2-85EF591126E7}\NIS_19.5.1.2\coFFPlgn

[ThemeDirs]
Extension0=D:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\extensions\{972ce4c6-7e08-4474-a285-3208198ce6fd}

Now, the Norton SafeWeb and IdentitySafe now works on my Firefox 11 browser, though on the Extensions menu, the Norton extensions are still not listed, neither on the Plugins list.

Just now, I experimented a bit and installed another extension for Firefox (FlashGot). After restarting Firefox, the entries for the 2 Norton extension on the extension.ini disappeared again and became like this:

[ExtensionDirs]
Extension0=C:\Users\Emman\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\o9la77ux.Emman\extensions\{DDC359D1-844A-42a7-9AA1-88A850A938A8}.xpi
Extension1=C:\Users\Emman\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\o9la77ux.Emman\extensions\{19503e42-ca3c-4c27-b1e2-9cdb2170ee34}.xpi

[ThemeDirs]
Extension0=D:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\extensions\{972ce4c6-7e08-4474-a285-3208198ce6fd}

From there, it can be assumed that when adding/removing a new Firefox extension, the 2 Norton extension entries are always erased and it is a hassle thing to do to paste the same 2 lines of code over and over again when there's a change in the list of the Firefox extensions (caused by adding/removing). I hope the Norton devs would be able to address this issue on their future updates.

Thanks a ton senthilkumar! Thanks also to the members that tried to help me on this problem =)

Missing Norton Extension for Firefox 11 (using Norton Internet Security 2012)

It's my first time here in the Norton forums and I want to seek help regarding my issue. I just bought Norton Internet Security 2012 yesterday as my previous installation (Norton Internet Security 2011) was about to expire within 3 days. I uninstalled my previous version and installed the 2012 version using the CD that came with the packaging. After successful install, I noticed that my Firefox 11 browser is lacking the Norton Extension but my Google Chrome (17.0.963.83) doesn't lack it.

So I reinstalled my Firefox 11 browser after uninstalling it and restarted the computer. After doing so, the Norton Extension is still missing in my Firefox so I did as what I've read on other posts where I have done a couple of LiveUpdate until there is nothing left to update with, then restarted my computer. But still after doing so, the extension is still missing.

I tried uninstalling the Firefox 11 and installed the Firefox 10.0.2, done some few LiveUpdates and restarted the computer but still got no luck. I removed the Firefox 10.0.2 and installed the 11 again, but this time, I reinstalled my NIS 2012 from the CD (but this time while connected to the Internet so it was downloading) and did some LiveUpdates until necessary but still no luck with it. I already did what the Norton Removal Tool instructed and removed the NIS 2012 again and downloaded the one from my Norton Online Account and used the download manager. After installing, I did some LiveUpdates again until necessary but still, I don't have the Firefox 11 Norton Extension while my Google Chrome browser has it.

I can't think of anything else just to enable the extension on Firefox 11 so I came here out of frustration to seek help. Thanks in advance!

PS. I'm on NIS 2012 19.6.2.10 everytime I'm finished doing the necessary number of LiveUpdate

Edit:

My OS is Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1 (64 bit)

I'm on NIS 19.6.2.10. My Firefox 11 doesn't have the Norton Toolbar so I don't know how to enable it. It can't be found on the Firefox Extensions neither on Plugins. Norton Toolbar can't be located on the Firefox Toolbar menu too.

Hi emmanne08:

If the Norton Toolbar is missing from Firefox (Tools | Add-ons | Extensions) and you've run LiveUpdate in NIS until no more updates are available, it's likely one of two problems:

The problem was caused by a recent NIS product update and the latest coFFPlgn.dll file for the FF11 extension was not installed properly in your Norton installation folder. When this happens a clean re-intall of NIS using the Norton Removal Tool (see here for instructions) is usually the easiest solution.

Your Firefox user profile is corrupted (usually the extensions.ini file). In Firefox, go to Help | Troubleshooting Information and click the Open Containing Folder button to find the folder where the files for your Firefox profile are stored. If you suspect your Firefox user profile is the problem, creating a new Firefox profile is usually the easiest solution.

I have an old post here for FF9 that should help you determine whether your NIS installation or Firefox user profile is the culprit. There are also links there for instructions on how to create a new Firefox profile, if necessary. Since you have Firefox 11 you should be looking for v. 12.5.2.5 of the coFFPlgn.dll extension in your Norton installation folder per Tim Lopez's post here titled Firefox 11 Support for Norton Toolbar that's pinned at the top of the forum.

Please post back and let us know if you have any questions before proceeding. Troubleshooting this type of problem can be a bit frustrating and you can waste a lot of time re-installing the wrong software if you don't figure out the root cause first.

----------------
Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit SP2 * NIS 2011 v. 18.7.0.13 * IE 9.0 * Firefox 11.0
HP Pavilion dv6835ca, Intel Core2Duo CPU T5550 @ 1.83 GHz, 3.0 GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS

I can see the coffplgn.dll in my Norton installation folder and it is version 2012.5.2.6 when I hover the mouse above the dll file.

I actually created a new Firefox profile just now and used that new profile, still no Norton Extension on the list of adons neither on plugins. So I uninstalled Firefox again and made sure that the profile folder was properly deleted and reinstalled again. Immediately I created a new profile and used it. Then I used Norton Removal Tool again, restarted my computer, reinstalled NIS 2012, ran LiveUpdate until necessary, restarted as prompted by NIS, ran LiveUpdate again until necessary then checked Firefox. Unfortunately, still no Norton Firefox Extension installed.

Checking back again on my Chrome browser, it has the Norton Extension and the SafeWeb is working fine. I assume that in my case most probably, I'm on the problem #1 you have mentioned. For now, there would be no SafeWeb for me on Firefox, only on Chrome =( Eventhough thanks for trying to help out Imacri.

Can you run a full scan in Safe Mode? Safe Mode is required to detect and remove some things that cannot be found while Windows is running.

If nothing is found...Even though you ran the Norton Removel Tool, sometimes once is not enough.

You should try running the removal tool,then reboot , run the removal tool again, reboot, run the removal tool once more with a reboot. Then log into your Norton Account and download your copy of NIS. Run the LiveUpdates as you did before until no updates are available.

Let us know if that works.

Hi,

Sorry for the issue you are facing.

Can you try following options:

Option1:

In following location, we will have install.rdf file, Open this file in Notepad and check Min version 9.0 and max version 11.*

If you have max version is 9.0 or 10.0, then change it to 11.* and check this issue again?

<em:minVersion>9.0</em:minVersion>
        <em:maxVersion>11.*</em:maxVersion>

Location for  install.rdf file C:\ProgramData\Norton\{0C55C096-0F1D-4F28-AAA2-85EF591126E7}\NIS_19.x.x.x\coFFPlgn

NIS_19.x.x.x, x is the version number

Option2:

If Norton toolbar is not listed FF->tools->Addons->Extension, We need to make sure the entries in Extensions.ini file are correct or not.

Check this NIS folder name under C:\ProgramData\Norton\{0C55C096-0F1D-4F28-AAA2-85EF591126E7}\NIS_19.x.x.x

And add these(mentioned below) in Extensions.ini entries (if it is not there ), with Exact Product version NIS_19.x.x.x (e.g. NIS_19.1.1.3) which you have seen above

Hello peterweb, I'll try your suggestion if nothing happens on the solution of others, I'm still hoping not to do another reinstallation of NIS after my 3rd or 4th as far as I can remember =(

Hello Imacri, I don't have any entries on my list of Firefox Extensions after checking it the way you suggested.

Hello senthilkumar, I inspected the Option1 and the max version is set to 11.*

I noticed something odd wherein I have this directory C:\ProgramData\Norton\{0C55C096-0F1D-4F28-AAA2-85EF591126E7}\NIS_19.5.1.2 while my NIS version is 19.6.2.10, quite contradicting with the 19.5.1.2 folder in terms of NIS version.

Regarding Option2, I modified the extension.ini found at %appdata%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\o9la77ux.Emman\extensions.ini (I'm using Emman as the default profile) and added the following below the ExtensionDirs:

Extension1=C:\ProgramData\Norton\{0C55C096-0F1D-4F28-AAA2-85EF591126E7}\NIS_19.5.1.2\IPSFFPlgn\
Extension2=C:\ProgramData\Norton\{0C55C096-0F1D-4F28-AAA2-85EF591126E7}\NIS_19.5.1.2\coFFPlgn\

but still no luck after doing a restart and checking out the extension.

Now, I checked my C:\Program Files (x86)\Norton Internet Security\Engine\19.6.2.10\exts and only found the chrome.crx file and no installer for Firefox Extension ending in .xpi , does this give us any lead to the culprit?

Yeah, up to the point that Download Updates and Process Updates becomes Not Required on the LiveUpdate panel. Just as I have explained on my first post, I did all of those with a reboot/restart of my system. But still no Norton Firefox Extension working for my Firefox11 browser, only working on my Chrome browser =(

Hi Emmanne08,

You have added the entries in extension.ini with backslash at the end

Could you add these entries without backslash at the end and check the issue?

Hello senthilkumar, it worked like magic!

I would like to compile my findings after doing the workaround you have enumerated:

I didn't have any firefox extensions installed a while ago on my freshly installed Firefox 11. While doing your advice, I accidentally placed the 2 Extensions on the ThemeDirs on my first attempt thus making it like this on my extensions.ini:

[ExtensionDirs]

[ThemeDirs]
Extension0=D:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\extensions\{972ce4c6-7e08-4474-a285-3208198ce6fd}
Extension1=C:\ProgramData\Norton\{0C55C096-0F1D-4F28-AAA2-85EF591126E7}\NIS_19.5.1.2\IPSFFPlgn
Extension2=C:\ProgramData\Norton\{0C55C096-0F1D-4F28-AAA2-85EF591126E7}\NIS_19.5.1.2\coFFPlgn

When I noticed my mistake, I modified it to look like this:

[ExtensionDirs]
Extension1=C:\ProgramData\Norton\{0C55C096-0F1D-4F28-AAA2-85EF591126E7}\NIS_19.5.1.2\IPSFFPlgn
Extension2=C:\ProgramData\Norton\{0C55C096-0F1D-4F28-AAA2-85EF591126E7}\NIS_19.5.1.2\coFFPlgn

[ThemeDirs]
Extension0=D:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\extensions\{972ce4c6-7e08-4474-a285-3208198ce6fd}

But it didn't work so I tried adding a trailing \ for the entries to make it like this:

[ExtensionDirs]
Extension1=C:\ProgramData\Norton\{0C55C096-0F1D-4F28-AAA2-85EF591126E7}\NIS_19.5.1.2\IPSFFPlgn\
Extension2=C:\ProgramData\Norton\{0C55C096-0F1D-4F28-AAA2-85EF591126E7}\NIS_19.5.1.2\coFFPlgn\

[ThemeDirs]
Extension0=D:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\extensions\{972ce4c6-7e08-4474-a285-3208198ce6fd}

Extension0=C:\Users\Emman\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\o9la77ux.Emman\extensions\{DDC359D1-844A-42a7-9AA1-88A850A938A8}.xpi

[ThemeDirs]
Extension0=D:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\extensions\{972ce4c6-7e08-4474-a285-3208198ce6fd}

Then from there, I noticed that the extension should start at 0 and not at 1 (I started at 1 on my previous attempts). So this one finally worked when I modified it like this:

[ExtensionDirs]
Extension0=C:\Users\Emman\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\o9la77ux.Emman\extensions\{DDC359D1-844A-42a7-9AA1-88A850A938A8}.xpi
Extension1=C:\ProgramData\Norton\{0C55C096-0F1D-4F28-AAA2-85EF591126E7}\NIS_19.5.1.2\IPSFFPlgn
Extension2=C:\ProgramData\Norton\{0C55C096-0F1D-4F28-AAA2-85EF591126E7}\NIS_19.5.1.2\coFFPlgn

[ThemeDirs]
Extension0=D:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\extensions\{972ce4c6-7e08-4474-a285-3208198ce6fd}

Extension0=C:\Users\Emman\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\o9la77ux.Emman\extensions\{DDC359D1-844A-42a7-9AA1-88A850A938A8}.xpi
Extension1=C:\Users\Emman\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\o9la77ux.Emman\extensions\{19503e42-ca3c-4c27-b1e2-9cdb2170ee34}.xpi

[ThemeDirs]
Extension0=D:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\extensions\{972ce4c6-7e08-4474-a285-3208198ce6fd}

Yes. Always NIS will install the updated .dlls(e.g. CoFFplgn.dll) for the extensions irrespective of whether 32bit or 64bit OS.

Both users(32 and 64 bit) will have same dlls(e.g. CoFFplgn.dll) for the extensions

Thanks, I was going crazy trying to restore the Toolbar until I found your exchange here - Thanks for posting the exact contents of your extensions.ini.

Only by extrapolating from your setup to mine (Windows 7 professional, Norton 360, Firefox 11) and finding the equivalent folders on my machine was I finally able to get the Norton Toolbar back. Now if only Symantec would incorporate this method into their information for disgruntled users who've lost the toolbar, and also fix things via Live Update so users wouldn't have to become admins, search for the right folders and files, and edit extensions.ini themselves.

Well done both of you

:smileyvery-happy:! -Andy B.

Did it. Now, NO Norton Toolbar. Seems the update for the Toolbar is in NIS VERSION 19.7!!! Which I can NOT get yet.

If I use the Norton Remove/Re-install tool, I will have to re-install Norton Utilities 15 also??
