The Pulse or Map updates complete.

Hi, Mark. Your local Symantec Server may not yet have all the files necessary from the main Symantec Servers for the full Engine Update Download to complete. If so, this will get fixed automatically by Symantec over the next several hours - or at most the next few days. Once all the "bits and pieces" are available on your local Symantec Server - LiveUpdate will complete the download of the "missing bits" and the Engine Update will complete.

If, after a few days, your Engine Update is still stalled - you are in a situation where the partial download of the Engine Update is incapable of performing the NIS update on your machine - but LiveUpdate is not "seeing" the Engine Update as incomplete. Thus, the final "bits and pieces" necessary for the Engine Update process to occur successfully do not get downloaded. A classic catch-22.

At that point - the full-pull using the Standard Uninstall Process from Add/Remove Programs is usually all that is required to fix the problem. Anything that empties your LiveUpdate cache - as well as updates NIS so it no longer thinks the Engine Update has been downloaded to your machine - is all that is required for the update to complete successfully. Usually, the least-painful and most-bulletproof way to get LiveUpdate "back in sync with reality" is to uninstall/reinstall.

If NIS is working properly for you - other than your inability to update to the latest Engine - make sure you select the reinstall option that preserves your NIS configuration during the reinstall procedure. Thus, you won't even have to mess with your settings after reinstall. However, do make sure you run LiveUpdate as many times as is required after the reinstall - to confirm you are completely up to date. This may require as many as 5 LiveUpdate runs - but is usually no more than 3.

Hope this helps your understanding.

Did they make the Toolbar patch ONLY for the 19.7 version??????

Again overnight I received an upgrade to version 19.7.0.9 and has happened to me frequently over the last few years (look at my posting history) my excel macros (password protected macros in a password protected Excel 2007 xlsx file) have been disabled. I really dont understand why after YEARS of this it is still a recurring issue! Now to spend the rest of my day trying to fix the problem. Probably scratch around for an old version, uninstall this version, open myself to infection and then reinstall old version. This is a HUGE bugbear of being a NIS customer! I dread seeing that NIS Icon on my desktop which signals a patch has been applied overnight.

*edit*, actually this time the issue is slightly different. The Macros appear to be running, but a 3rd party add-in appears to have been disabled despite being selected as an excel add in, and the spreadsheet being signed and running in a trusted location.

Anybody have an idea how I can debug this issue?

Ok, any NIS staff who monitor this forum; here is the problem..

It appears that the new version of NIS is somehow disabling my third party excel add-in "Web Data Excel Addin" upon initial start of any Excel session. The only way around this is to go to Excel Options -> Add-Ins -> Manage: Excel Add-Ins -> *UNCHECK* the addin box and exit back to the main excel screen. Then repeat the process but -> *CHECK* the addin box and return to excel main screen. This **temporarily** restores the add-in functionality and makes the 'Add-ins' menu visible, BUT this is only maintained for the duration of an excel session.

When you exit excel and restart, everything is disabled again and you have to repeat!

NB - This bug has manifested itself on long used software, ONLY after the latest NIS 19.7.0.9 upgrade patch was installed on my Windows 7 64bit PC overnight.

What is the next step for me? Must I call support? and go through yet another hours of someone scratching around on my PC merely to come to the same conclusion, or can a NIS developer simply veryify this bug and put in this list of things to repair?

Update... Somehow this has "fixed itself" but I am not sure what exactly has changed. Have done multiple reboots, windows updates, NIS liveupdates, uninstall and reinstall of addin software and spreadsheet addin removal and re-add with a save afterward.

It 'fixed itself' the last time I removed the addin and re-added it as per the post above, saved all 4 spreadsheets afterward did a liveupdate and rebooted. But I did this previously and it did not sort it out, so I am unsure exactly what has changed to fix it. Hopefully it is permanently fixed. Possibly a subsequent liveupdate which applied 2 items may have contributed?

Confused atm, but the problem was definitely NIS patch related.
