What is the new AUTO TASK DELAY in Miscelleaous tab of NIS2009 version 16.5 use for?

Me too ,not quite sure about what it is.

It is located in Settings--Miscellaneous Settings.

The 16.5 update of NIS/NAV is absolutely Mind Blowing !!!

Delays the start time of NIS2009 auto (background) tasks from when the program is first loaded. Such things as updating, idle scans, etc. It DOES not delay the loading of the scan engines so you are protected as usual but just lets everything else (OS files and other start up programs) load and "settle" before NIS2009 will even start to trigger it's background functions (tasks). Useful to let your system finish booting quickly and then checks for new updates (for example). This is internal tasks not to be confussed with Windows Task Manager tasks (just for more information).

With your explanation, it seems to me that Auto Delay Timing is a DUPLICATION of IDLE TIMING (feature below Auto Delay Time). It makes it more confusing for users.

So how should I use the settings and what are the difference between them.

So Confusing!! ......Norton could not even provide a HELP for that.

Idle Time setting --- how long does your computer have to be idle (not actively processing) before Norton will allow the Idle Time Tasks to start; this applies to any time other that startup. Idle Time Tasks are Insight scans, reports to Norton on the Community Watch service (if you opted into this), Idle Time Quick Scan and Idle Time Full System Scan to name a few; there maybe more but these come to mind right now.

AutoTask Delay --- how long after your computer starts up before Norton will allow certain Automatic tasks to start running (not Idle Time Tasks but normal Auto Tasks (Pulse updates, Live updates, etc.))

Does this help? N360 manuals probably have a better description / expaination in them than this. This feature is 'cloned' from N360; I beleive the idea is to lessen the load during start up (booting) of the OS.

They (Symantec) should provide help-information for that item IMO. That's, with a "?"-shortcut to the right of Automatic Tasks Delay.

I would suppose this feature is a part of N360v3 as well?

Perhaps, Symentec thinks we are all EGGpert on NIS2009.

Everything in NIS2009 is Good, except that Symatec provide horrible help & user guides.

Yes: that is how I know about it. My wife's computer has N360 (figured the more auto the program the less I have to do....) <s>
